Royal Decameron, Panama

Recommended Posts

Hi JR!

I am planning a DW in Panama early 2012. When I tried to read your attachments (because I am very interested in more information) it wouldn't allow me.

Could you possibly email them to me?

[email protected]

I would greatly appreciate it. :)

This should come in handy for anyone wanting to put together some Welcome info brochures.... HECK why not just print these???

Hopefully you find these helpful! So I thought I'd share....

This first one is especially good for Canadian brides!!

Hi! I am very excited to have found this forum!!

We are getting married there January 27th, 2012!!  We have been in contact with Julia, and have some of the details worked out!

A few questions -did anyone use the photographer the resort provides?

-did anyone pay for the band during their dinner? If yes, how are they? Was it a good mix of English and Spanish songs?

Do you have general suggestions for making the day (and week) great!

Thank you in advance!!

We had our wedding there in January, and it was amazing!

We got married at sunset on the beach, but would also suggest the tree for something different (and you would still be close to the beach, and you could go and get pictures there.)

We had our dinner in Club Med, but had 74 guests with us. They wanted about $20 per person to hold the restaurant for the whole night, so we didn't do that.

We arranged for a civil marriage, which did not involve translating all of our documents (including the long form of our birth certificate - so don't worry, there are other options if you don't have the long form) but took a few months to receive from Panama.

We gave travel mugs as our gift to the guests - we distributed them before the trip - and only had to carry a few for those we didn't see.

It was sometimes hard to get in touch with Julia, but the week before our wedding, and while we were there, we were made to feel incredibly special! We met with her the second day we arrived and worked out all the details. I had emailed her pictures of the bouquet I wanted, and was worried, but it was perfect!! My husbands boutonniere (a calla lilly) was damaged by the end from all of the hugs, but was great for the photos.

We took our photos before as we were warned we wouldn't have much time after the ceremony and before sunset. Julia arranged a shuttle for us and our 3 photographers (and in a van, so no one saw us) to the private golf club side, and we took our photos there.

We just had friends do our photos, so I cannot comment on their photographer.  (We bought a decent SLR camera for the same cost as the photo package and entrusted it to a responsible friend) The photos after the ceremony look photoshopped the colour of the sky from the sunset is so beautiful!

My biggest complaint during the ceremony, is all of the other guests at the resort. Some stranger videotaped the entire thing, one lady (now known as "green bikini") stood behind the judge, so is in all of the photos, and one family allowed their young daughter to pick a flower from our wedding arch during the ceremony!! Thankfully I was absorbed in the ceremony and missed this, but others did see it.  I have mentioned this to Julia, and would suggest you ask her to keep people further back.

The resort is amazing, and handled our large numbers very well. A bartender held tables and chairs for our group each day, which allowed us to have somewhere to meet. I had asked for a "rehearsal" dinner -and Julia arranged 2 of them for us. (We didn't actually rehearse, we just had dinner - once with family, once with friends). The resort was big enough that if you wanted privacy, you could find other spots to sit away from others. We rarely had problems finding shade as they have so many pools.

We did the snorkelling and booze cruise. There was some small biting fish in the water, which made swimming in the ocean, esp. by the big rock, less enjoyable - but the cruise was a lot of fun!!

The pic below is of a drunk guy holding a beach ball asking the judge what was going on as my (now) husband was about to walk down the aisle.

My beautiful bouquet.

My beautiful bouquet!

This decoration is from the basic package. The people standing up for us had to 1) say we were single, and 2) give us a small speech - we did not know about that (The mic was also handed to us to give a small speech to each other)

The aisle treatment

Overall, the resort was great, and the wedding package, and how little I had to plan, was amazing, and I would highly recommend it to any destination bride, especially if you have lots of people travelling with you!

Happy planning!

I am going to a karate camp this March in Panama. Our group is staying at this resort. Is there a fee to utilize the beach for a small wedding ceremony? I don't want a wedding package because the banquet is already booked through the karte program. We will celebrate at the banquet after the ceremony. I was wondering if there would be a fee since everything is all-inclusive. If you know the answer to this I would really appreciate a response.

Hi all,

I have been racking my brain trying to find the ideal place to be wed....REALLY hard to please everyone.  Well, I think we have finally find the place;  Royal Decameron is fitting the bill.  I would love to have your feedback past brides...I would love to see pictures....

Is the language barrier really an issue?

How was the beach? Is it long and walkable? My grand-father has a bit of a mobility issue...will the largeness of the resort be a problem for him?

Also, has anyone been in June or July (rainy season)? because we are considering doing it then.

Thanks for any and all help!

We had one friend on crutches, and one older guest who uses a cart at home, and she used a cane at the resort. You can call for a shuttle (remember though, to call early if you actually have a reservation, they took a long time, even the day of the wedding when we had booked them days in advance)

I would make sure they request, and pay the little extra, for an ocean front. This is on the same level as the beach and most of the pools, so would cut down on a lot of stairs.

I never found the language barrier an issue. We got along fine, and had an amazing trip!!

The beach is steep if you go down to the water. But there is a large area at the top. We rarely went in the ocean, preferring the pools!

We got married at the beach outside of Cafe Med. This is on the upper level of the beach, and most of the walk there was walkways, there was only a small distance on actual sand.

I recommend it - we had an amazing time!! (We were there in January, so can't answer your question about June, other than I think it would be really hot)

As for the karate camp question, you would have to contact them to find out if you bring your own judge, etc! It sucks having to pay for the dinner for the guests (if we had booked the Cafe Med for the night, it was a fairly high price per person, in my opinion, seeing as they were already guests at the resort paying for their dinner.) so I assume you would have to pay some fee.
