This is interesting...I've looked at a ton of pics on BDW and I was feeling the same way. I thought it was just the feminist in me, but it seems strange to me that the ladies are spending thousands on designer gowns, wearing full wedding gowns, trains and all, on the beach, and the guys wear khaki, flip flops, and linen shirts. It's always seemed a bit imbalanced to me. If the guys wear khakis, the women should be casual (ala JCREW) as well. But it doesn't go so...

So if women are willing to wear undergarments and full gowns and be warm, if not hot, what's all this concern with men's comfort? Just a thought...

So i voted for tuxes! We're having an all white wedding and my FI is wearing a white tuxedo...the verdict is still out on the groomsmen...

Ive looked at a million of DW pics and im torn also...I bought a beautiful, expensive mermaid ivory satin wedding gown, my girls are wearing satin coral knee length cocktail dresses....us ladies are going to look gorgeous so i dont feel as though the guys should be dressed sloppy...they can wear beach clothes the other 5 days they are there...i feel that even though its in Mexico its still my wedding day so everyone should be dressed nice..i told my FI I want him in a black suit b/c it looks sharp next to my white dress...he had no problem with it..were both undecided about his groomsmen...im thinking black suit pants for the guys with short sleeve yellow or baby blue dress shirts, no ties, then my FI could wear the same color tie as the guys shirts...what do you ladies think about that? what color goes good with guava (coral) blue? yellow? i was also thinking blue shirts and then yellow flowers for the girls...so many decisions...i just want my pictures to look sharp and elegant but with a beach background...Nicole

I completely agree! Why is it okay and completely expected for the woman to where her heavy, hot wedding dress (which if you hold a tux in one hand and your wedding dress in the other, the wedding dress is usually heavier), but men can wear khaki pants? I mean if a guy WANTS to wear khakis and a white shirt, so be it...but in my case, he wants to wear a black suit with a blue peacock shirt, and all the groomsmen have black paints and a peacock shirt only (no tie or jacket). Yes, he'll be hot, but the ceremony is only so long and then he can take off his jacket and tie, roll up the sleeves for the reception. He's willing to make the sacrifice because it really looks good on the beach and he felt like khaki would look out of place next to my wedding gown. But like I said, it's a choice. I'm choosing to wear a gown that would work in a vineyard as well as a beach, but I'm definitely going to be sweating up a storm.
My point is, go with what you both envision. Who cares if it's not the norm for a beach wedding, everyone does what they want :) That's the great thing about non-traditional weddings.

Well thanks for looking at all of our pictures and letting us know it looks weird....

....
I think it's personal preference. I'm not a big tux person (we aren't very formal) so even if I didn't have a beach wedding, I doubt I would have gone that route. However, I think a nice alternative is a suit. Looks more modern to me, but keeps the formality you might be seeking. Kittenheart just had her wedding and she had the guys in slacks with vests... I thought it looked really nice, yet cool and sophisticated. Maybe check out her pics to see if that's a route you might want to go. Good luck with whatever you choose! :)

I told my FI that I'm fine with him being casual and wearing khakis and a shirt because it'll be hot but he's insisting on wearing a suit so that's fine by me. I think for the TTD pictures though he'll wear khakis and a shirt as to not destroy his suit. My dress I don't care as I don't plan to wear it again.

We were at a wedding last year where the groom wore a suit and he was soaked from sweating! If you do go that route I would make sure each guy has an extra shirt to change into.

I do think a lighter suit would have looked sharp but I know my husband and our groomsmen would have been uncomfortable and with getting married away, I was pretty relaxed about the whole thing. Good luck with your decision.
Can you tell me where their shoes are from?? Thanks!

We scored on the guys outfits...for less than $50 a guy!
Hi! Where did you get the guys pants??

My husband ended up wearing his billabong shorts for the reception and yes i was still in my thousand dollar plus gown.

and it was perfect!

Why was it perfect you may ask, cause I was me and he was him. I would never force him to be something he is not. That is not how our relationship works wink.gif we are free to be who we are and express ourselves. Even in our wedding clothes.

I completely agree, Erika! Honestly, I told my husband to pick out whatever he wanted to wear. He didn't have any say in what my dress looked like, so why should I tell him what to wear? He chose a tan silk suit from Men's Warehouse, went barefoot for the ceremony, and then had dressy sandals for the reception and pictures not on the beach. Frankly, I think we looked good. (I'd post a pic, but I can't from work. Feel free to check out my slideshow though.)

By the way, who is expecting women to wear big, heavy, expensive gowns? Don't we do that on our own? Some people were shocked I wore a traditional wedding dress.
