glad your AHR went well lesee!! :)

We did a lot of talk/planning for our AHR yesterday and I feel a bit better now.

We got to go look at the hall again as it was all set up for an afternoon wedding.  They only had a setup for 60 people (we're going to end up somewhere close to 80) so it was nice to see that it didn't actually look to bad in the big room.  We're just going to spread things out by putting only 6 people per table.

As for centerpieces, we did find some vases at dollarama which we're going to go back to purchase.  Then we're thinking putting a layer of sand, some seashells and floating a large flower in them... maybe a green chrysanthemums perhaps?

I also bought some frames at dollarama (i think they're the same ones you got mocha) which we're going to use for the table numbers.  We didn't originally plan on doing a seating chart, but after discussing it, figured it would make things easier the day of.  I got some turquoise spray paint at michaels for the frames and for the numbers, I plan on just picking different photos from our trip/wedding and incorporating the number into them on photoshop.  And to finish up the tables, my mom and I found some sparkly turquoise jewel/stones which we'll sprinkle on the tables.  We're also going to have white chair covers just to keep things clean looking.

As for a cake, I've decided that I will make chocolate cupcakes and frost some in white butter cream and some in turquoise butter cream.  I found a wicked piece at Home Sense yesterday which I'm going to use as a cupcake stand, along with a few other cake stands and trays.  MIL also has some really cool conk shells and other big shells which we'll use to decorate the cake table and other areas.

We still have a lot to figure out, but with less than 2 weeks to go, I'm glad it's finally starting to come together a bit better.  It's going to be such a busy few weeks though. Can't wait till it's done and we can relax!!

Elese - Glad you had a wonderful time. And now hopefully, you can relax a bit.

Laura - That sounds like a good idea. I'm glad you found some vases you like.

I have slowly started collecting glass vases for our dessert bar. I've also decided not to do a multi tiered cake. We will just serve the dessert that is on the menu and I'm going to make a small cake for decoration only. Now to start baking stuff for the freezer and deciding what other sweet and/or savory items to include. Since we are expecting about 70 people, I think I would like to have 10 different items. Here's my list so far if anyone has suggestions:

  1. Cupcakes
  2. Cake Balls
  3. Chocolate Dipped Pretzels
  4. Kettle Style Popcorn
  5. Homemade Marshmallows
  6. Macarons

Laura and Mocha, I'm glad to hear the AHR stuff is coming together for you! Ours is too.... mostly because I had a mental breakdown on Saturday morning and freaked out at my hubby because this AHR is in his hometown. I don't know 3/4 of the people going, and the 1/4 that is going I mostly don't like!! He hasn't once asked what needed to be done or if he could help and has no clue what is happening with it. There was just so much left to do and I was completely overwhelmed... so ya... I lost it. He was awesome though and sprang right into action getting things done. Right now he is en route to the cupcake store to drop off a swatch so they can match the icing!

For ladies looking for ways to display some sweets I found some awesome vintage plates and candle holders at Value Village that I'm gluing together to make cake stands (or in this case macron stands) Then I made a cupcake stand out of cardboard cake rounds, painted cans and vinyl drawer paper that matches the exact patterns on the escort cards! The place cards are actually mini flags that will be stuck into a mini galvanized pail filled with wrapped blue salt water taffy. Lots of sugar for a brunch but we purchased cupcake boxes from the cupcake place so people can take it all home.

I also made buntings out of rectangle lace paper doilies and blue ribbon that I can swag across the tent ceiling and ordered a printable guest book "tree" poster that people put their finger print "leaves" on out of ink. It was awesome actually. A girl on Etsy designed it for me, I sent the file to staples and it came out perfect. The whole guest book design and printing was less than $20!

Sorry about the info dump, the AHR is on Saturday so I'm just so anxious to get it all together!

I had

3 types of gourmet marshmallows (raspberry, lemon and toasted coconut)

various flavours of macarons

2 different types of cupcakes

rumballs

dutch almond squares

apple pies

butter tarts

date squares

I think that's it. I can't really remember. I'm sort of wiped! lol
