Riv Maya photog recommendations?

I'm looking into photographers and have already researched a few but I was wondering if anyone can recommend one that isn't so into "posed" pics and more into photo-journalism.

We are using Dean Sanderson. We really like his stuff. He is based in Vancouver now, but I know he spends winters in the Mayan. Really cool stuff

del Sol... Fabulous! Sol was our wedding photog and I have to say our pictures are fantastic and we were not at all comfortable in front of the camera (just how we are not anything to do with her), but you'd never know it from her shots. Plus she was super sweet and you could tell she loves her job!

Thanks everyone! I got in touch with Elizabeth Medina and Del Sol - we are trying to figure out which one we are going to go with. It seems that if you don't go with the photog in the package the hotel offers, the prices are pretty steap - but maybe this is what it costs?

The photographer costs half of what the wedding will - does that seem about right?

I think the two that you are going for have a slightly higher price than some others. Your estimate of half is probably about right, depending on your budget and these particular photogs pricing.

 

A quick tip as well- make sure you know about your resorts policy on bringing an outside vendor. All resorts are different- I think mine has a 200 fee, but since Elizabeth is staying at our resort the night of our wedding (as part of her fee) they won't charge me for it. I know some resorts don't even allow them.

Our wedding isn't until next May, but we did get to meet with him and he is a very cool guy. His prices are reasonable and his style is more of the photo journalism style - less posed stuff.

It depends on your budget, and if you have a large budget for photography, then Del Sol and Elizabeth Medina are the best. But if you don't want to go that high, then I'd suggest looking at Cecilia Dumas, Moments that Matter, Dino Gomez, and Victor Herrera. They have the style you are interested in for less than half the price of Del Sol and Elizabeth Medina.
