Jellyfish Restaurant

Recommended Posts

We haven't been yet, but here's what we are planning...first off, instead of a guest book, we are using a Diver Down flag for our guests to sign...that being a unique thing for us, we decided that instead of doing a slide-show or a couple of our fav pictures, that we would do a photo book.  This can stand up on the table by the flag set-up, so people can sign and check it out all at the same time...Our other option was to bring a cheap digital frame down and load it with pictures...then it's more mobile too...

Thank you!

I believe (please double check with your TA or someone!!) that the DR is one of the few countries that does not require a "residency" prior to getting married...be patient with Mayte...she's the probably the busiest person on the planet, but once you have her attention, you will have it all...try emailing her again (I notice you are set for 4 months from now...try putting URGENT in the subject line...before anything else)...good luck!!

I also asked her if she knew what time the ceremony will be so I can do my invitations but haven't heard back...

Hello ladies!!

I'm new here. My fiance and I just recently decided to change our wedding plans and go with a destination wedding in Punta Cana. For a few weeks I was stressing about the weddings at the resorts not being private enough for us, and then I came across the Jellyfish Restaurant yesterday and I've been excited about it ever since! I can't wait to get a date set and get the ball rolling. :)

Just a quick question, I sent an inquiry about wedding dates through the contact form on the restaurant website. I'm wondering if I should just send an email to Mayte directly at the gmail address or if she will respond to my inquiry through the website. Any suggestions?

There is not a waiting period to be married the Dominican Republic, this is a requirement of the resorts to make sure they have all the documents.

The travel agent is supposed to be checking into it as well, but we just want to be extra sure before we make our flight reservations!  I did email her a second time with the subject "IMPORTANT - MAYTE", still no word.  I am trying to be patient, but my FI really wants to book ASAP and every day he asks me and every day, no I haven't heard yet... it's now been about 2 weeks or so since first email and a week since 2nd request.  Trying not to stress because I know when she gets to it she will tell me, but time is running closer, I'm trying to get the invitations together.  We are having a pre-travel meeting for our guests with the travel agent on the 18th so they can make their deposits and book, and they all want to know why we haven't yet and what days we will be there.  There is kind of a lot riding on her response...

Thank you for checking!  I was pretty sure I had seen it somewhere but when I went to look again for specific details I couldn't find it for some reason.  So thankful to have a community of people going thru the same thing to help out...

Hello!

We were married on Saturday January 7th and met with Mayte on Friday 1/6. It was about a 2 hr meeting, that included us having a tasting of the food. She had a wedding that night so we went over all the decoration and transportation details and picked the drinks and then she sent us upstairs to have a tasting of the menu. You do not have to have a tasting and that could cut an hour of time off, but who turns down free food? :) I would say plan at least 2 hours with Mayte. If you have any other questions for me PM me, I do not get on here too often so if you send me a PM :)

Happy Planning! Jen

How long was the visit with Mayte before your wedding day? I'm cutting it kind of close because we land on Saturday and my wedding is on Monday. And now my flight times have changed and we don't get there until 10pm Saturday. I have a lot to do on Sunday!!! I have to put together the OOT bags, meet with Mayte, I wanted to buy favours in the Dominican, and have the welcome dinner. Starting to stress that it's too much to do!

Thank you!

Hello!

We had 66 total guests and I did not want to spend the $1000 to rent out the entire place on Jan 7th of this year. There were a couple people that tried to join our party but to me I didn't care, I was too busy dancing!! The staff told them to leave and it wasn't an issue. Around 10pm there was no one else eating upstairs anyways. We did have people eating dinner and watching our party on the lower level but I would tell you to save the money! Your group will be having too much fun to care! Any other questions PM me :)

Happy Planning!

I know a few girls didn't not rent the entire Jellyfish restaurant to themselves and I was wondering exactly how this worked out for you. I'm probably only going to have about 25 guest so I don't think its completely necessary to rent out the whole thing.

It took Mayte like a week to respond to me the first time and then she has been replying back to me every 5-7 days since. Just be patient, I am sure he gets a ton of inquiries but I haven't read anyone say that they haven't been able to get a response from her! I do know some girls have tried calling too, but I had no luck with that. Oh and I sent an email through the contact form and via email and she ended up responding to both on the same night, so one or te other is prob fine. Good luck!!

Her ears must have been ringing today!  Finally, an email!  I get to the breaking point, vent my worries on here, and wouldn't you know that's when I hear from her... lol  I suppose I need to start being patient 1 day longer!

So info from Mayte about legal ceremonies:

1 - She is fine with coming in 2-3 days before.  It's not for the country, they don't require it.  It's just for her so you can make your final selections with her and go over planning.  She says it's your vacation, she can work with what time you have.

2 - It's not a fun process to do the legal ceremony but she makes it work for you. Mine's on a Sunday so it's really not easy for her but after some hard work she was able to book a judge for my date (we didn't prefer a Sunday, that's just what was available so we took it).

3 - The judge will not finalize a time for the ceremony until approx 1 month prior to the date - so I'll just leave it off the invites.

That's plenty to hold me over for now.  Let's hope it's enough for the FI! ;-)

Just a thought for those considering a legal ceremony in the DR...We did not use Pastor York or any of the other pastors/priests/ justice of the peace in the DR- we had a friend of ours perform the ceremony. He was ordained online- yes, you can do that and it's legal (at least in he US) and then we signed the marriage certificate in the airport when we returned home (it had to be in MN) If you are not set on a specific religion or type of ceremony, this is a great way to go. It saved us money also :) It was much more personable and meant a lot more to us to have someone we know and love perform the ceremony.

Our wedding 2/3 was amazing. I wish I could post pics but don't have the 'authority' to do so. I will try to do a review this weekend!

be patient for Mayte's responses, she is extremely busy!
