But at the end of the message it says let me know your date.

Is this an automatic/ copy-paste message? or are they actually booked every day for 2013 already?

Rski,

I got a very similar email when I inquired about a March 2014 date. Although I was a little more lucky because she responded with the specific dates that were indeed available that I then chose from. (only 2 Saturdays left that month... crazy!) If she didn't specifically say that they were not available, I would assume they are and reply with your preference. I'm sure she will correct the error if you reserve a date she doesn't have.

So...

Email #1: Mayte responds with the dates that she has available in March 14. We chose 1 of the 2 Saturdays left, and I let her know that we planned for a short trip to the DR to see the place for ourselves. Mayte tells me not to worry about a deposit until we can see that we are happy with the choice and her.

Email #2: Our short trip to the DR has been delayed for a few months, so I let Mayte know and ask her again if she needs a deposit to save our date as we really don't want to lose it! Her response is " If you want to put a deposit, feel free to send whatever you want, because we don´t have any quote yet, but at the beat the requests are coming every day, will be perfect idea, so you have the deposit and the date completly yours."

I've read from the other posts that most people put 10% down, but we don't have an official quote yet. But "send whatever you want?" I've read from other posts that people put anywhere from $300-$500 down. But it also seems that most people don't actually know the real cost until a few days before the event!

So any tips about putting down a deposit, how much you sent, etc. would be really appreciated! It feels so odd just sending money somewhere without anything official.

Is anyone doing or has anyone done a late night buffet? My fiance and I are not really big on sweets and we thought it would be important to have munchies to help soak up some of the booze everyone will be drinking. I think I read someone did a fajita bar? Has anyone given any thoughts to this?

Thanks!

Mimiq, is it because the transaction is foreign? I have an american express but I wonder why there is a limit.

I'm not sure... I think they have just run into trouble before when they have tried to charge more than $1000 to either visa or mc.  Also remember to tell you CC company that you'll be out of the country!

Thanks!

We did a late night buffet of nacho chips, guacamole, and fajitas and it was great!  There was lots of food during the day, but people still found room for it.  I think it was only about $4 or $5 per person - so glad we did it!  Other people have done mac and cheese or various things.  As always with the JF, just ask and Mayte will make it happen!

I was really worried about my meeting with Mayte since she wasn't responding to my email to set it up and honestly, it wasn't scheduled till right before we left.  She had another wedding that night but we were escorted upstairs and she came and met us.  Although we hung out drinking and eating free stuff :-) it was pretty quick and painless.

I struggled greatly with the music too.  I thought doing it myself would help the budget and we didn't really view it as a DJ-type reception.  Plus, being crazy, it was nice to know all the music that was going to be played.  After researching the topic, I discovered the style of music in the DR is more of a spanish speaking Soca and Merengue and less Calypso/Steel Drums.  For us, we decided to make it what ever made us happy. With the music I already had on my computer it only ended up being about $70 and I asked my mother for an iTunes gift card for my shower so it didn't cost us anything.  We just used an ipod and had another one loaded up as a backup.  Keep in mind two that it helps to number the playlists so they are in order for the person controlling it.  Also, there are settings you can set in iTunes to help adjust all the songs to the same sound level as well as do fade-ins.  Here's two websites that helped me:

Going into this I had no idea what the vibe of the night would be (people crazy and wanting to dance, just chill, etc.) so I tried to be prepared for everything.  Turns out everything was perfect and I got many compliments on the music.  Sorry the list is so long, hope it helps.
