Canadians: Westjet or Air Canada?

I have never flown Westjet but I have also never had a problem with Air Canada. Granted, I think a lot of other airlines may be superior in terms of services and updated equipment but I personally feel that Air Canada is dependable. Just by the sheer size of this airline provider, I know if something is wrong, ultimately I will be able to escalate the complaint. I guess I'm just old fashioned, but I also like to be able to get face to face service and Air Canada always has staff on hand.

So you may get better service/seats with Westjet but IMO, I would choose whichever has the better price as it's not like you're choosing between a really good provider and a very unstable one.

I personally LOVE WestJet! and hate AirCanda, their customer service sucks. Unfortunatley though, in some cases, such as our trip to Cabo in a few weeks, WestJet offered the trip but had a stopover in Calgary, whereas AirCanada went direct (and it was a bit cheaper too)...so AC won in the end. But when I travel to Vancouver, or Winnipeg or anywhere else, I only fly WJ even if their prices are higher.

I fly both and I haven't really had a problem with either one of them. Westjet now charges for the use of their seat-back TV's which I really hate. A movie is $5.99 and tv shows are $1.99 or $2.99 - seems like such a rip to me. Air Canada has free tv shows and movies but they don't offer ANY snacks for free, not even peanuts.

I will generally just fly whichever is cheapest and/or has the best flight times.

Ana, I am surprised to hear that Westjet was not a direct flight to Cabo for you. We are flying Westjet for our wedding in October and it is a direct flight. Both westjet and air canada have pretty good baggage restrictions. For me, the decision is generally based on the package price and whether its a direct flight or not.

We're using Air Canada as well for our wedding.  I've gone on several all inclusive vacations with them and service has never been a problem.  We did have one flight cancellation due to mechanical failure in Jamaica, and they had a representative on the ground immediately assisting us.  We got a great flight voucher for future service and another night's stay at an all inclusive.  It was really well handled all in all.

I have flown with both and have never had any problems with either.  We ended up going with Air Transat for our wedding group as they provided us with the cheapest price.

I'm having the hardest time with WestJet right now..and wondering if anyone is getting the samething. They won't let me finalize without knowing exactly how many people in how many rooms...but how am I supposed to let people know the price and date and place...if they won't hold the rooms for me? Also...they're only giving us two weeks to put down our deposits...and not like they are giving us any upgrade/bonuses...so getting frustrated..anyone else?
