Renting a Car in Cabo

Recommended Posts

Okay so I'm sure there is a thread already on this but I am wondering if we should rent a car while we are there for our wedding?

I am thinking that since we are staying at Dreams and having the Wedding at FA-imperial suite, it would be nice to have a car to maybe go to costco for some extra liquor for after the "event", etc...we don't need one the whole time just like one day or two....

Brad thinks that we will get pulled over and take to jail or something?? Has anyone rented a car here?

I've rented a car both times I've been there and it was fine. The only thing you have to know is that your US car insurance does not carry over in Mexico. But you work for an insurance company, so you probably already knew that. We purchased our rental car insurance through AmEx, rather than the rental company (Alamo.) It was cheaper that way.

It seems comparable to the US. We just rented a compact car from Alamo for 3 days and it was $150 total. That included a discount I got through my company and I thought the price was pretty good.

The first time we went to Cabo (Dec 2005) we actually rented a mini-van from Payless and it was about $600 for the week but that included the insurance. I thought that was pretty good considering we had 6 of us in that thing all week. Keep in mind, Payless doesn't open early. We had an early flight out the day we left so it was a bit of a challenge returning the car.

I've been to Cabo a few times and luckily we have a friend who lives there who lent us a car. I do not know how much it is to rent a car plus insurance but if its only to go to costco it might be more financially better just to take a taxi. They are everywhere and I never had trouble getting one.

If I were you, check them both out. The price will depend on the size of the car you get and how long you have it. Not sure which will end up being a better fit for you. Also, from what I've seen, Hertz is really expensive.
