Thanks!
I wouldnt mind doing a jack n jill, but my MOH is really adament about throwing me my own shower. All my family and friends are out of state so it would make sense to have a guys and girl shower, but it is what it is. Are you asking about an AHR? I think thats a great idea! Not everyone can afford to go to a DW so having a small AHR will definitely be beneficial! :)

We're having a small reception when we return. We weren't going to but one of the girls who was supposed to be in the wedding party wasn't able to afford her & her husband going to Jamaica (they just adopted their first child) so she backed out but felt really bad so she asked if she could host a reception for us when we return as her wedding gift for us so we agreed. It is a really sweet offer and I know my friends/family who can't make it will really appreciate it. My FI and I will too, I'm actually quite excited for it.

We had a pretty big engagement party, planned that so people who will not be joining us in Mexico could have a time to celebrate with us...It was very nice, but Im glad its over, I wouldnt want to plan something else after all the planning for this wedding...Its very nice if a family member throws it for you though :)

It's so exciting!! Can't believe it's less than 6 months to go already. Everyone keeps asking me how the wedding planning is going and I'm like "ehhhh, haven't done anything in a while". Seems like most of the stress is at the very beginning planning stages and than a month beforehand. But I will say my girls STILL haven't found their BM dresses, and we've been searching for months!! It's either too sexy or not sexy enough..where's the middle ground? All I know is we better find it soon.

On another note, have any of you girls started planning your bachelorette/bridal shower stuff? I know that's up to the BM's, but they want me to pick when and where and I have no clue. I can either do wine country or Vegas or Santa Barbara or San Diego, basically anything in CA or NV. And how soon beforehand? I don't want it to be months beforehand, because I want it to feel like I'm going to be getting married soon, but I wonder if people will complain if it's only a month before and they are spending money to go to my bacherlorette and wedding? Toughie..

My MOH is planning my bridal shower for September. From what I hear, about 2-3 months before is normal for a shower. Im not sure about having a bachlorette party, as ALL of my BM's and girlfriends are in Jersey and I live in Houston sad.gif I think if you had a bachelorette party in late Sep/early Oct it would be fine. I dont think people will complain. Who wouldnt want to go out and party? lol But, I am worried about people not wanting to get us wedding gifts because they are travelling for our wedding. I know it sounds selfish, but why shouldnt we expect gifts?

I have only gone to one destination wedding. Our friend got married in Aruba about two years ago and when she sent out her invitations she said "We would like your presence in lieu of gifts". Her friends still threw her a bridal shower and she did get gifts - I know people that can't go still like to give gifts. But I think it was a nice way of her saying we're not expecting you guys to fork over a ton of money and we just want you there on our wedding day. She told us people still gave them monetary gifts at the wedding but not that many and that they weren't expecting it.

I didn't tell anyone anything yet but I was imagining that the gifts would be a lot less since we are doing a wedding in Mexico.

What are your thoughts?

I definitely think that we will get less gifts then normal...but at the same time I'm not expecting any. I really dont want/need anything. My FI and I have been living together for a while and neither of us has patience, so when we see something we want we buy it! LOL!! My future mother-in-law is however planning a shower for me in September, and insisting that I register, so I know people will bring gifts there, but I'm definitely not expecting or wanting anyone to bring anything to Jamaica! I actually wish I had thought of putting "We would like your presence in lieu of gifts" on my invites!!
