This isnt someone's house tho...they rent it out for parties and special events. The reason I didnt use my friends house was you need to get a one day insurance policy (god forbid something were to happen, I didnt want their insurance involved) and bathroom rentals. All that was more than my deposit for the house, which includes all that!! Let me know if you want their info...but its in Lemont, not the city.

If you are willing to travel about 40 min outside of Chicago to Gary Indiana there is this gorgeous place right on the beach in the dunes national lakeshore. It's called the Aquatorium, it's an old bath house from the 20's that has had many renovations. I was going to do my ceremony and reception here but decided on a DW instead. The website is Welcome to the Chanute Aquatorium Society

I'm an event planner in the city and there aren't too many places that you won't have to pay a fortune for. If you go into the suburbs then you will have a much better chance of getting what you want. Might I suggest a picnic? picnic grounds are extremely cheap to rent out and they usually have tables and chairs set up. You could rent a photobooth and a caterer. Maybe do a pig roast and do some sort of vintage decor. Just a thought.

Glad I found this forum!! We are planning on doing something small, probably at a restaurant or some place with appetizers and drinks. Plus, I'm not sure who to invite... obviously close family that couldnt make it down to mexico, but I'm thinking of inviting our bridal party as well that live in Chicagohuh.gif ahhhh!!

You may want to check out the hall at the Holiday Inn, Merchandise Mart, it has floor to ceiling windows and an amazing view of downtown. I looked into it for my reception (a sit down dinner) and it was surprisingly affordable for a downtown location, so for a more casual reception it would be even cheaper. Or we looked into the Tasting Room which also has a great view. The prices they quoted us were a little expensive, but they seemed willing to work with us to make it affordable. Or if you're set on renting out a house, check out VRBO (example house listed below). Good luck!!!

Hey Girls!

We are doing ours at Pazzos @ 311 on Wacker. It is so beautiful--tall palm trees, water fountain--it is a big atrium lobby of the business building. I looked everywhere in Chicago for our AHR and price-wise, location, and accomodation for what we need, it fits. They only need a $1,000 deposit to hold (and they book FAST!) You can do sit down dinner, buffet stations, passed hors d'voures--whatever you want. Fay, the coordinator there, is so great and easy to work with.

I have been to a wedding at the Jacob Henry Mansion--it is very beautiful, too.

Good luck girls and congrats!

Tricia
