Sometimes TA's are just that - TA's.  Some of them know very little about the actual wedding details.

At Christy: I was in contact with Rick York about 2 weeks ago and he mentioned that he was going on vacation for a month. He did say that he would periodically be able to check his email. So, if you don't hear from him right away, that's why:)

www.wedo.com/do is a website that can help you with all the legalities of having a civil ceremony in the Dominican.  When we were considering this we used the website as a guideline, but found that it was much cheaper to do the paperwork other places.  It's really expensive, which is why we are getting legally married here first.  I'm scared about the civil ceremonies just b/c I read a thread somewhere on here about a couple who still haven't gotten their marriage certificate a year after their civil ceremony in the DR!

We just got back from our DR wedding at the Gran Bahia Principe Ambar.  We hired Pastor Rick York for our ceremony and he was simply awesome.  He performed a non-religious ceremony for us that was outstanding and all of our guests agreed that it was the best ceremony they have ever witnessed.  We saw a number of other weddings that were using the resort's wedding coordinators to translate, as included in the resort's packages, but it seemed so routine and tacky, and no where near as special as Pastor Rick made us feel at our ceremony.

I could not recommend him more highly.

Hi i am getting married in excellence punta cana next april. Right now we are booked for a legal ceremony there, but after reading all about Pastor York i would love to use him! My major concern is that I really want the ceremony in english! So as i understand it, the pastor cannot perform a legal ceremony. Can you have the pastor perform your ceremony and then just sign the legal paperwork with the judge after?? Right now im thinking it might be a better idea to do the legal paperwork at home beforehand so we are already legally married, and then just have Pastor York perform our actual ceremony when we get down there. That way we also dont have to worry about dealing with the translation of the documents and waiting for our license afterwords. I just really wish there was some way Pastor York could do it legally! But nbd i think to get "married" at home first (aka sign paperwork) and just do the ceremony there and use that date as our wedding date! Any thoughts?

This may be a stupid question, but can Pastor York perform a non-religious ceremony? We are both not religious at all and I don't want any Bible or religious references in my script, but is that 'rude' to ask a Pastor to do??? Any input would be great!

I have booked Pastor York for our February 2012 wedding at Majestic Colonial.  We will be having a "legal day" ie. marriage back home before going to Punta Cana and then will have a "symbolic" ceremony in Punta Cana.  We wont be telling many people, we weren't going to tell anyone but thought we better not keep it from our families!  Pastor York only perform symbolic ceremonies so if you would like him to perform your ceremony know this.  Our big reason for booking Pastor York was that we really wanted our ceremony to be in english and not just 10 minutes long.  We didn't feel comfortable asking any friends or family members to perform the ceremony so when we heard about Pastor York we decided he was right for us!!  We also did not want to go through the "hassle" of getting legally married in the DR I truly want it to be a vacation and didn't want to be running around worrying about anything!  We will celebrate our anniversary on our DR wedding date not our "legal day" but getting married back home in Canada makes everything easier and no waiting!!

To answer your question astef, Pastor York does provide 2 different ceremony options, one is religious and one is "spiritual" I guess would be the best way to describe it.  There are still some spiritual references but nothing major.  If you contact him he will send you both the options and you can read them over.  He also welcomes you to make any changes you like.  He is really great and we are very excited to work with him!!

Hope this answers some of your questions, if you have anything else just ask!!!!!
