Bridal Party

Recommended Posts

Lalanyc - I actually had the same train of thought, very pragmatic of us :)  I knew my sister would be the MOH but her wedding was so long ago and she is very busy and lives far away so I didn't really ask for her help.  I picked my closest 3 friends to be BMs but I did definitely think of not only their friendship, but their personalities.  I knew that one would be awesome at getting problems resolved, she's the steamroller that will solve any problem at hand and not take no for an answer.  My other friend would keep my nerves calm and give me lots of girl-talk time and support.  My 3rd bridesmaid is a dear friend and even though I knew that she wouldn't be too much help since she's not married, she is funny and would make me relaxed and have a great attitude if I needed help.  That's what friends are for in general but you also have to consider that the wedding day is very important and who will have your back 100% when you need it?  With preparations, I honestly did all the planning myself and didn't ask for much help other than picking out the dress.  I'm sure they would have wanted to help but I like to make my own decisions :)

I made the same mistake of picking a friend once we knew we were getting married. At the time i was getting on really well with this friend and i knew my sister in laws would not be able to make a destination wedding so i chose this friend.

Over the past year things have changed and i had to let my friend know that i no longer wanted her as a bridesmaid, it just didnt feel right anymore as we werent getting on like we used to. I now dont talk to her much at all and havent seen her for some time. Shame really, as we were once very good friends.

I think the moral of the story is, when you know you are definately getting married have a good think about who you want to be involved before you jump in and ask people. You may end up loosing close friends if things change or you change your mind.

When I first started planning my wedding I was so excited and one of the first questions I asked myself was who is going to be my BM's? I have been so indescive about this that I am driving myself crazy (not to say my poor FI) At first I said 6 BM's then I went to 2 then to 3 and now I am thinking about 4!LOL

I made the mistake in the beginning of asking my FI's sister immediatly to be one of my BM's and she was very surprised she even asked me if I was sure?(She knows I have a very big close family) and the truth is she and I are not close at all, but I felt sort of obligated to ask her. As soon as I had asked her I regreted it. Deep down inside I knew I wanted to have one of my cousin's in it instead. So my FI knew how I felt and he said to me listen I know my sister she will totally understand so I will tell her how you feel and trust me she will be fine. And sure enough he told her and she was fine with it. So I got over that hump...and now it's on to me making a descion on a solid # of BM (3 or4?)

I know for me I let the excitement get to me and I totally jumped the gun!!! smile105.gif
