Hi everyone-

Since I've been misquoted on here, from a private message, I thought I'd clarify a bit-

By this time I had already emailed the author of this thread to ask her.  She told me that because he had another wedding that weekend she split the cost of travel with the other bride.  So at least I had my answer.

I am a firm believer that if you want specific information, you need to get it directly from the vendor you are dealing with. This is why I always suggest that people who e-mail me should e-mail the vendor. I'm happy to share my opinion, and amazing photos! But details like cost and other arrangements are not always the same for everyone. How can they be, when there are so many variables when it comes to a wedding?!!

I explained that Daniel had been in the Mayan for a wedding already, when we had booked him. Then I suggested to her to see if there was another bride in the area who wanted to book him, as then perhaps they could split the cost. I didn't actually say that we had split the cost ourselves. I do apologize if that was misleading, but I want to clarify what I actually said. Anyways- my intentions we only meant to be helpful!!

We loved Daniel, and found him to be extremely professional in every aspect. As a self-employed artist myself, I totally understand and agree with the importance of having a signed contract and a deposit, before the deal is done. No signed contract = no gig, no matter how many e-mails have been sent back and forth. If you're really concerned about a situation to do with booking a venue, photographer, musician, artist- whatever- and e-mail isn't working, I'd suggest using the telephone to follow up. I know when we were planning things I always felt better after a phone call with the wedding planner at the resort- nothing's open to interpretation when you're actually speaking to each other!!

I wholeheartedly agree with you.  I think you should get information directly from the vendor, but after 2 unanswered emails I thought I would ask someone who had experience with him.  I apologize if I misquoted you, but I asked you if you paid his expenses and your answer was that you "worked something out" and that I should "find another bride to split the cost" so I took that as there ARE travel expenses involved which was what I was asking, and what I felt I should have been told by Daniel before he sent it to me in a contract.  If there are not travel fees involved, then why put it in the contract?  Should I have just ignored that clause and hoped for the best?

I'm also not saying he doesn't have the right to cancel.  Of course, no contract no gig.  I'm saying that I thought it was handled very very badly.  I'm sorry, but where I come from, if someone verbally agrees to do your wedding and takes the time to send you a contract, that means something.  This forum is to highlight our experiences good or bad with vendors.  Im so happy that you had a great experience with him, he's a great photographer.  But this is what happened to me, and I can only tell how I felt afterward. I wish him the best, I have hired someone else that I am equally happy with and life goes on.

I'm a wedding planner that has worked with Daniel in Riviera Maya recently and his work is phenomenal!  He was great to work with in coordinating the details prior to the wedding: very quick to respond with communications and helpful.  When we both flew in for the wedding, we had some time to meet and talk (it turned out we had many mutual friends) and it was great to see how seriously he takes his craft and how creative he is.  My bride felt at ease and it showed in her pictures, additionally, once the pictures were done, they were nothing short of amazing.  Composition, color, everything was absolutely wonderful.  What also made it wonderful for me was that he worked well with the resort staff, as well.

Just thought I would leave my thoughts about my experience with him and vocalize that you absolutely cannot go wrong with him as your photographer.
