Another option is a guided boat tour through the mangrove jungle in the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve. They take you on a boat through the canals in the jungle that were carved from the mangrove by the Mayans. You get to see all types of birds, fish, possibly crocodiles and sometimes even manatees. There is an option to float along with the boat for part of the tour. I can dig up some contact info about that if you want. That would be about the only option for a boat tour of the type that you are looking for.
I just saw that one little picture of a river & thought there was a huge river flowing through the jungle. I have not been to RM, just cancun. I have also just begun my research into the area, but I plan on being an expert before we go:) I'm not planning the wedding, just the adventures. I have found your reviews to be really helpful, so I'd appreciate any suggestions you have.

I will look up the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve.

Do you think Xcaret is worth the money? Not necessarily for my grandma, but just in general. I wonder if its better to hunt down lesser known places than to go to Xcaret. I looked into the Hidden Worlds park you posted on a different thread & it looked like fun. Did you also say you were going to Aktun Chen? If so, how was it? Opps, didn't mean to hijak my thread & switch the topic away from gramdma friendly places. I am just so excited for all the adventures in RM!

Is this it? Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve Sian Kaan Home

I couldn't find prices on the site. Do you have an idea of how much it would be? It looks like a great place. I love how eco-friendly the area is.

I'd like to find something closer to Puerto Adventuras (between Akumal & Playa) if possible.

Thanks so much everyone for ideas!

This is what I heard back from Xcaret. Sounds like a person can not travel on a wheelchair to ride the boat through the jungle. Too bad, that sounds like a fun way to see the jungle without walking. Here is the reply:

Dear, Thank you for your preference to our natural wonder Xcaret. The park is not 100% accesible to all clients in wheel chairs, many areas can be reached only by stairs or narrow roads but 60% of the park can be visited in a wheel chair. Not a boat ride. Special wheel chair rental $15 USD for the day From 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Best regards, Customer Service
