I am getting married at Half Moon- Montego Bay, the resort has a WP who is very helpful and responsive to all my questions but I have to say that I am limited to using their vendors since there is a ridiculous  charge should I wish to bring in a vendor from off property. So far this has worked in my favour as regards the photographer, I amusing Michael Saab whose work me and hubby really loved.

I have thought about getting the flowers from local vendors but knowing where to start just makes my head spin. I have guests coming from US, Barbados, St Lucia, Trinidad and the UK and of course some from JA.  The price of flights have increased so for those in the UK who have not booked yet, serves them right. Everyone knows you have to get in there ASAP, the closer you get to your holiday date the pricier it can be...(sorry my bridezilla side rears its head every now and again)

Your partner being Jamaican might be helpful for you to get some recommendations from them failing that this site is truly a godsend.

I can imagine that you are stressed, I would have no idea where to start if I had to choose a wedding planner etc.. but of course we can surprise ourselves sometimes.

You are probably wondering how we came to choose Half Moon- well we  or should I say my fiance entered an won a wedding competition that ran in a magazine here in the UK and we won... we actually won and were amazed for days- the madness took over and before we knew it we had invited the world. In hindsight given the cost... essentially we are now paying to cater for guests- we should have restricted the list to immediate family only. Too late now... sigh..

I am hoping to make some kind of savings but its difficult even though we are keeping it simple.

What is your theme if any? my colours are ivory and bordeaux.

Oh forgot to mention that a friend who makes cakes offered to make my wedding cake (although one is included in the package) only problem is not sure if you can bring a cake into JA, what if it gets confiscated? I have been trying to get some sense from the embassy/high commission in the UK but no joy... so that means finding a local vendor- no idea where to start so will have to use search option on this site... what about you?

WHAT!!!!!???? You won a wedding at Half moon????? I have stayed there twice and LOVE the place (once 10 yrs ago & new year's just gone)! Andrea quoted a wedding for us there but too expensive like $950 for a cake - I think not. My parents are going to stay there for 2 wks in September so we will stop by.

Jealous jealous jealous! You go girl!

You would think that it would be helpful fiance being Jamaican but as much as I love his family, our tastes are leagues apart :)

Which location at Halfmoon are you using?

Oh and onemore thing.......JEALOUS!

You made me laugh out loud. Sometimes i still cannot believe we won. So cliched but i never win anything- can't say that anymore. cheesy.gif

Andrea is my WP and she is so patient, looking forward to seeing her in person. At the moment i have oleander terrace booked but if my numbers go beyond 50 it may have to be moved.

Winning the competition was such a blessing but the package only covers me and the fiance, we try to remember how great this is but all the other costs are overshadowing this at the moment,BUT i know once we get to half Moon we will know it was worth it!!!

Hopeful the future inlaws will be of some help but I know what you mean about tastes..lol. Hopefully this site will guide you in finding a wedding planer and if she is good can source some of the vendors for you.

Keep me posted on progress i never tire of hearing about wedding plans.

UK Jamaica Brides or grooms don't desert me now. What are you ladies choosing for flowers I am undecided as they are all so beautiful.

I still need to decide on which musician to choose for the ceremony...saxophonist or pianist

Come on ladies let me know what you have done and what you have left to do.

Hi Miss UK!!!

Flowers - the local tropical fowers are amazing but I am toying with the idea of wooden flowers which look quite funky.

Music - we are going for a guitarist but out of piano and sax I would go for sax everytime.

What have I (clearly the only other UK bird on here) done and have left to do?

Done: date, photographer (marcia grant), save the dates sent out approx 20 guests booked wth about 10 left to book and venue booked (Mount Pleasant Villa).

To Do: Um, everything else? We did have a planner but then had to cancel as the prices were going way and beyond what we had set our budget as. Now very seriously thinking about doing this entirely ouselves.

Grrrrr.....

In other funny news, since finding out about your win, you don't even want to know how any competitions I have entered!!! :) No joke.

So you don't have to cover your guest's accomodation do you?

Are your plans coming together nicely?

Catereerbride...

I was starting to feel lonely. The UK brides thread has been hijacked by ladies who are getting married in Mexico and I cannot keep up and out of the loop with their conversations.

The one constant in planning seems to be the spiralling budget..something you seem to be experiencing also. How often do you get on this site?

I am sure that your plans will come together if you doing it all yourself make list, ask for recommendations and use this helpful site.

My guests are covering their own flight and accommodation we are covering food and drinks e.g. the reception.

I am definitely favouring the saxophonist  also

Done: photographer (Michael Saab), date, flights and honeymoon (which will be Rosehall) we did consider going to Negril for the second week but decided we didn't want to and now i wish we had. So a few days after the wedding we will make a hop/skip/jump over to Rosehall Resort Spa.

We have 60 guest coming so far but only about 20 (all from the UK) have actually booked flights. I hope people dont say them coming, mek me pay and then don't show up cos I will go all island on their backside....

Still to do.. finalise the scripts, decide if having rehearsal dinner, choose flowers, get BM dresses (actually going to 2 stores on Tues and Wed), my shoes, jewellery and the list goes on....

sigh......

Girl keep entering the competitions, you got to be in it to win it!!!  I did laugh though...too funny
