What price is acceptable?

Recommended Posts

Coming from Calgary, to me, that doesn't sound like a bad price but it really depends on what you're getting for it. Is it the high season when the weather will be better? Is the resort really highly rated? Is it a newer, swankier resort? If so, people may expect to pay more, if not you may want to keep looking around. Basically, I'd pay that for a friend or family member's wedding (if it was a good value) without blinking. Keep in mind that that's me, though, your guests may feel differently.

I would talk to a few key people that you trust (for us it was our parents) about what is a reasonable price. I figured that my mother would know what she was comfortable paying and might have a good idea about what others in our family might think, too. FI and I also realized that not everyone would be as willing and able to splurge on our wedding as we were so we decided to lower the price range from what ours would be to what we figured was reasonable for everyone. The bonus this way is that it's much easier to stay for an extra week, plus I have more money for other wedding things and we get to go back home for a more extended vacation on top of going to Cuba. So there can be benefits to you if you save a bit, as well.

When is your wedding??
My wedding is in October the people i really want there have been notified since last October. The quote I have is for the Iberostar Laguna Azul.

I think talking to a few of the people going, people you trust will give you a realistic answer is a good idea. One of my friends was like "keep it under $1000!" and I think that is a nice thought but not exactly realistic for an advance booking for Feb!I will be happy if we can stay in the $1200 range. For me and my guests!

Hmmm... that's a nice new resort, on the one hand, but it's also the tail end of hurricane season on the other. Have you shopped around to others TA's to be sure this is the best price? I know you said the quote will expire in a few days, but they always do. That doesn't mean you wont be able to get a new one or that it'll jump up drastically if you take some time to think it over. It's not a bad price, but you may be able to do a bit better. There are a lot of brides using this resort in the Cuba part of the forum- some'll be from different parts of Canada but they may be able to give you an idea of what to expect to pay, too. Good luck!

We are flying out of Toronto this May to the Iberostar Laguna Azul and our guests are paying $1290 for the week for a double room.

We have a group rate, and have had quite a few comments from people saying the price is too high. We spent months searching and stressing, and finally booked last October.

My advice is to just book it. It feels so good to have that part over with, and honestly if people want to come, they will be there no matter what, especially because you have given so much notice.

I think many people have an idea of how much it should cost to travel to Cuba - but they don't factor in that with weddings you can't do a last minute deal for a large group, not to mention you want to stay at a nice resort. Good luck and hope that helps!

I completely agree with this. People are used to seeing last minute deals advertised everywhere, too, and that gives them unrealistic expectations about what they should be paying. Booking in advance for a group is a different ball game- you can get a group rate but no last minute deals.

I don't think those prices are high considering the amount of time the guests are staying and what they are getting for their money. They won't have to pay for food or drinks if you do an AI.

I hope I can stay in the $1200 and under range, which might be possible since our wedding is going to be in Montego Bay, Jamaica in July. Montego Bay is much cheaper than Negril. And I've found out that it's all in where you are going.

Jamaica is pretty reasonable with prices, but some places get really expensive.
