Closed post I apologize

Recommended Posts

I just had a couple of post that have been closed. I just wanted to apologize. Today when I have tried to search for a thread it has not been working correctly. It was pulling up post that had nothing to do with what I typed in.

I just closed another thread that you started about recipes. Please SEARCH before starting a new thread! This forum is HUGE and if every person started a new thread for random thoughts rather then using threads that already exist, this forum would be a hot mess. Please read the FAQ in my or any other mods siggy if you have any questions or issues with the search function.

I am glad you responded to this. There must be something wrong with my search bar. Because I am searching and I have done it in many different ways. I have read and did everything that is posted on how to search for topics. And the topics that I have posted are not coming up when I search them. I am really not trying to put useless post up if they have already been started.

Sorry for the inconvenience but please let me know what I need to do differently so I do not have this problem again.

Can you tell me exactly how you are searching?

For instance, if you were searching for "recipe", can you tell me exactly what the screen looked like before you hit search and got no results? The forum recently had an upgrade, so while my search is working fine, we should def look into if it isn't working properly for everyone.

try to be more specific with your search queries:

type "RIU Ochos Rio" instead of "hotels in Jamaica" (for example).

also try searching ONLY the forums you think the discussion would belong in, ie: don't search in the "Mexico" forum if you know you have a question about Cabo specifically.

Also, the search on here isn't like the search on google. Like if you type in "hotels in jamaica" (thanks for the example, Abs!), you won't get a list of hotels; you will get a list of thread that have "hotel" or "jamaica" in them. I'm not sure of the technical term, but it's a word match search. Also, I just merged you "Maggie Sottero" thread, and realized that you might not have got any results in your search b/c you spelled it "Sorrento", or something similar. I can't remember exactly how it was misspelled...

Okay this is what I am doing. I will pick the area that most apply's to the question that I have. Then I will go to the search bar on top of the right hand side of the threads that are posted. I will type in the main words that I would think would be under the post. Then I will have random things show up.

For instance I just typed in dinner recipes and I get the best work out tapes I have ever owned, get fit 2010 brides. Which I do understand that those post might actually have some recipes in them. But that is not really the kind of recipes that I was looking for. I understand that you do not want a bunch of the post that all say the same thing. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

As for the dress thing I did spell it wrong and thanks for colliding that post together.

Megan, your search function is working perfectly fine. I just did the same search and also came up with the thread entitled "The best workout DVDs I have ever owned"; this is because the word "recipe" is contained within that thread. What you need to do is REFINE your search, as Abbie and Carly mentioned above. There are S-E-V-E-R-A-L ways to do this, some of which - again- are mentioned above. I will reiterate some of them for you

1) you need to be more specific than just "recipes". Again, if that word is contained within the thread, your search has done it's job and found every thread with the word "recipes".

2) Narrow your search to the sub-forum that applies to your category of choice. Do not search the entire forum.

3) If you still come up with too many threads, try different keywords that may apply.

4) If there are still too many threads, try to narrow it down by searching for your keyword within the title instead of within the thread.

And please, if you are still having trouble and we are closing your threads because they seem useless... don't start a thread apologizing to us. PM a mod so we can help you directly. We are trying to save forum space so things can run more smoothly for everyone.

I am now going to close this thread since this information is plastered across the forum already. If you continue to have issues, please PM a mod.
