Wedding Insurance

I read in a DW magazine recently that wedding insurance is highly recommended, espcially in cases where the wedding is out of the country. They mentioned that it was even useful for the recent Swine Flu epidemic in Mexico. I'm seriously considering purchasing some and I'd like to know if:

1). You guys think that it's a good use of money; and

2). If you have had any bad or good experiences with a particular company.

I highly recommend my brides purchase enough wedding insurance to cover their venue & group hotel room deposit. In today's economy any company can go out of business and your deposit would be lost. The fact that you've just sent a lot of money out of the country just adds to the complexity. The insurance is generally inexpensive considering what is at risk. I've seen rates around $300 that will cover a $9K deposit.

I dunno about "wedding insurance". I think travel insurance would be a good way to direct your money but everything else should have a contract and not require insurance. I, personally, wouldn't waste my money.

Im kinda with NaM on this one...wouldn't travel insurance cover any sort of situation that would come up?

I plan on getting wedding insurance which also covers our travel since it is outside of the country. It covers everything with travel, weather, venue, lost rings or deposits, and even if something happens to my dress.

It's not that much money in the scheme of things, so I will definately buy wedding insurance. It's too bad they won't sell liability coverage for weddings outside the US though

Wedding insurance differs from travel insurance in that it also covers things like deposits of vendors who no-show; lost or damaged wedding attire and rings; stolen gifts; property damage by you or your guests; injury of a guest; severe weather; postponements or cancellations (say if a close family member became critically ill); and these sort of unanticipated disasters that are more specifically wedding-related instead of travel-related.

 

My TA recommends wedding insurance and she specializes in DW. She knows we're getting married in Mexico, so I'm assuming that there are companies out there that offer coverage for weddings out of the country.

 

I just started browsing the net out of curiosity and so far I've seen one that will give an online quote based on needs and one that offers a "Risk Assessment." I'll actually do more research if I decide that I need wedding insurance.

 

Please let me know if someone out there has already done the research. I'd hate to reinvent the wheel!
