We are going to send ours out very soon. We are getting married Sept 25 2009 and our trip is booked and we have 23 guests who have paid their deposits. We know that quite a few others will also be attending and booking on their own later and we know of some who are on the fence. We want to send out STDs to everyone who has expressed interest in attending so they can start planning and saving. I think the rules change a little for destination weddings and it's smart to send them out as early as possible.

You should send the STD's out after you have confirmed and booked your wedding location. You want to give people as much time as possible, but you should have the resort booked for your date before sending them out. 11 months is definitely not too early as flight and resort pricing should be available now.

  • 2 months later...

just wondering how far in advance you all are sending your STDs and invitations, and when you are asking for your RSVPs back...

i wanted to send my STDs from mexico when we go to find our site so that they are postmarked in MX and with mexican stamps, but that would be about 12 months before our wedding date (which is still TBD). is this too soon??

any thoughts would be great...

thanks!

A year in advance is not too soon. I think the more notice you give your guests the better it is for them. A DW is like booking a vacation after all. Although it would be really nice to send hand written save-the-dates on Mexican postcards w/ Mexican stamps don't feel pressured to send anything out if you haven't finalized a date or place!

I am getting married in in Negril in November & I am sending out my invitations this month.

No I do not think that is too far in advance. I wanted to give my guests as much notice as possible, we sent ours out a year before and then followed with more formal invites about 2 months prior to the date! I sent out my AHR invites at the same time, I was lazy and just wanted everything out then!

thanks for the feedback, ladies! in a perfect world, we will be able to nail our location and date when we go on our site visit - only then would i mail them out. i'm not too concerned though, because i will probably still have the STDs sent from mexico - depending on how reliable my WC (who - like our date and place, still TBD!) is. i read that little tip in a magazine: to just send it all down to MX and have your WC or hotel send them out.
