we sent ours out about a year ahead of time too. I did a passport STD from a template I found on here (thanks becks!). It included some resort info, our travel agents contact info, passport info, & our wedding website. Our website has pics and details about the resort as well as a link to our travel agents site for prices etc.

We became engaged in May 2008 (last month) and sent the STDs immedietely after we chose our location. Then we sent glass MIB invites to those who were coming for sure about 3 weeks ago. We're getting married in January 2009. I'm a BAM, BAM, BAM, kind of person lol, I like to get things done.

We sent ours out about 9 months prior...at the bottom we printed our wedding website that had details of travel, hotel, etc...

We sent ours out a year ahead of time - because some family needed the year notice for work schedules. I would say the earlier the better. We sent a magnet with the typical STD stuff (name, date, location) and a letter that elaborated on our travel plans, the resort and directed them to our wedding website which we have kept updated.

I am so glad some one asked this question because I was wondering the same thing. I know I have a while before I even think about sending stds but I was curious to know when I should send them.

I was just wondering how much time before your wedding date did you send your STDs? We are getting hitched May 9'09 and I havent sent our STD's yet, but am planning on starting soon....
