when to send out STDs

i can't remember which BDW bride posted the basis of this letter but i re-worked it and am leaning towards sending it with the hawaii STD's

I say wait until you have date and location booked. I'm also getting married in Hawaii next november and I will be sending out our STD's in the next couple of weeks.

I totally agree with waiting till you decide on location. I did the same thing (via word of mouth and telling everyone just to save up their $ - to the people we know for sure are coming) because I am still debating on my location. But once that is set, I will be sending out my STD's!

I think you should hold off until you know exactly where you are getting married as well. I sent mine out a couple of weeks ago for our wedding which is a little under a year away. I wanted to give people plenty of time to plan and save if they were interested in joining us and the response has been good. Most of our guests were thrilled that we gave them so much advanced notice so that they would be able to plan accordingly.

We sent out our STD's after reseving the date with the resort. We reserved in April, sent out STD's in May, got early bird booking prices for rooms reserved by mid-June and the wedding is April 2008.

I'll be sending mine once I have the date confirmed with the resort which should be soon. I sent an email out to my immediate family and close friends with the tentative details and approximate price based on 2007 rates since Nov. '08 rates are not available yet. This way I had a tentative headcount of who would come and they knew approximately how much $ they would have to save. I felt the more notice people had the better.

Brooke and I became engaged on October 31st, 2006. We spent a few months making some decisions and sent out our Save the Dates in January of 2007, giving our guests about ten and a half months notice until our November 5th wedding.

Ours had our location, but I've seen many out there that just say the date!

I sent ours out as soon as we picked out location which was about a year before the wedding date. I did a magnet with our wedding date and Punta Cana, Dr on it. I mailed a letter with the magnet that had our TA info and the resort info. for resort info i put a description of the resort - All inclusive, kids allowed, rooms had jacuzzis, beac was beautiful. that kind of thing made it sound like an appealing vacay. I basically took some sentences off the resort website.

I did the same as DanielleNDerek. We picked and booked a location this April and we sent out a STD magnet and letter to everyone. We will be sending out AHR invites in the new year as our wedding isnt until April 2009 and we will have a AHR probably the end of May 2009.

I dont have a website for people to go to, and Im not sending out a reminder letter or something like that. The people we invited are close friends and family of ours that we talk to regularly so we figure we can do the reminding verbally!
