Hello,

So me and my sister have done a few crafty things, but now we think we can do anything and are looking into making soaps and lip balms. We want to start now, to get a few practice cycles out and then I want that to be part of the gift bags for my guests next year. We found a few recipes online that we are going to test out, but I am having trouble locating a good place to purchase them from. Has anyone on here ever done this? Most of the sites I found online, the quantities are huge! Any suggestions?

idk about recipes for lip balm, but they sell all of the stuff that you need for both at michaels and other craft stores. i used to make soap as little christmas gifts and it's awesome, b/c you can't make a mess - it's SOAP! it's also great b/c you can get really creative w/ it. even if you make plain soap, it's really the wrapping that makes it so pretty! pm me if you want some ideas to make them more creative.

it just occurred to me that i may not have answered your question....check out the aisle in the crafts stores that have the stuff for it - there are usually little magazines that you can take/buy that have recipes/ideas in them.

Lauren - Hmmm, I will have to check, but I thought my sis said that the ingredients for the lip balms/soaps we would need to get at a whole food store or something. I will do a drive-by after work today or tom. Cuz we want to make them from scratch. But I would love to hear any ideas you have, you can send me email at xxxx@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Kelly - I think it would be awesome so I am hoping we can get it together. My sister makes slings (to carry babies) and I make little memory boxes for people when they are pregnant and they are ALWAYS the most talked about thing at a shower. I usually make the memory box and put the sling inside, so it's pretty cool. And it feels really good to give someone something that you made and they think it's special too! Everyone wins:-)

My sis is actually putting together a website so we can sell this stuff, cuz she makes little leg warmers for kids to, to wear under their pants. So cute when they have little stripes sticking out. My nephew, Liam is 15 months old and she made him a pair that were black with flames, hysterical.

hey carly - i just thought of my favorite soap - made white round soap and red round soap...cut into pieces, and then put together like a peppermint...peppermint scent, etc. put in cellophane and tied little red ribbon at each side like the actual candy....i have to find my craft box and see what else i did.....

here's a link to recipes...it's the glycerin that you find at the craft stores...they also have the scents, colors, molds, etc.

Have you tried Michael's craft store or your local craft store? They should carry them in small quantity.

This online store sells them too: www.glorybeefoods.com

I am planning to make scented glycerin soaps to put in OOT bags. Just thought I would bump this thread up in case anyone one else is looking for a simply DIY gift. If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they sell everything you need. I spent about $40 and that was for the glycerin, a few scents (coconut, citrus fruit, lime verbena...) dyes to make soaps different colors based on scent, molds to make them in different shapes, and some extras like shea butter to make the soap more moisturizing. I should have enough to make about 30 bars. I think I'm going to wrap them in some natural-looking paper and attach a hanging tag with our logo on one side and a description of the soap on the other side.

Sounds good!

My sister and I made a few batches, but we made the soap from scratch with lye and all the oils. We wrapped them in wax paper and tied a wrappia (sp?) ribbon around them. They looked super cute and we got all great responses from everyone we gave them to.

I think we are doing this for my shower gifts since we have over 100 peeps on the list (ridic, I know!), and we will use the extras in the OOT bags. It was alot of fun and so rewarding!
