My ring is turning gold already!!

Recommended Posts

I've been married almost 3 years and have never had my wedding bands dipped (white gold).  My ering is only almost a year old b/c my original was lost on vacation last year, but it was 3+ years old at the time it was lost and it had never been dipped either.

So weird that it'd turn after 3 months. White gold has to be rhodiumized every so often if you want that pure white shiny look. I worked at a high end jewelry store on 5th avenue and we never dipped platinum. Platinum can be buffed/polished. The point of spening more for the platinum is so you wouldn't spend more for the redipping you have to do over the years. Also the jeweler told me that your e-ring and wedding band should be the same metal. If you have two different metals so close to each other they are bond to turn ( aka yellow faster). Make sure you go to a reputable jeweler to have your ring rerhodiumize. Hopefully that helps :)

I've been wearing mine for other two years (White and Rose Gold) and they are keeping their true colours.

I have had numerous rings throughout my years, all of which are white gold, and have never had a problem with any of them turning color.  Most of them still look the same as they did when I got them, and I have never had to redip any of them.

It all depends on the gold, they can have lighter and darker tinges to them.  My ering turned very quickly and I was told it was my body composition as well.  I just had it redipped but it could probably be dipped every 6 months or so.  We are thinking of changing it to a pave setting as opposed to a plain band just because it annoys me so much seeing it change a little!
