So, this may not be relevant to you, but they just started buiding these a few blocks away. E and I went to look at them and we LOVED them, the 2 car garage and the space usage was way better than what we bought, we totally would move if we could afford to.

Anyhow they are selling like FREAKING hotcakes.

Erika that was a super breakdown of the area! haha

So yes we live in Arvada which is more of a northwest suburb of Denver. My hubby and I grew up in Thornton/Broomfield which is north of Denver, so when it came time to buy we just couldn't be too far away from our roots. Personally I am not a fan of the southern suburbs (Tech center, littleton, highlands ranch, lone tree, etc.) Nothing against them but I just grew up north and that is what we like.

So the Highlands, LOVE IT! I totally love the highlands. We rented there for a year before we bought our house and we were 5 mins from downtown BUT when we were there we NEVER fully enjoyed the downtown scene as much as we should have for being so close. Also yes, a lot of older and smaller homes, and there is a lot of fixing up going on over there. also the highlands is a bit more on the expensive side. We have a 2200 sqft house now in Arvada and prob would only have half that (maybe) if we were in the highlands for the same price.so for us that was just not worth it. *** side note though, my grandparents live in the highlands. we were over there for the 4th of July and I realized how "city" it is compared to where we are now. cute area but too much traffic for me! haha something I never truly noticed until recently!****

we wanted a backyard when we were renting, we looked to rent in Stapleton. Stapleton is COOL (more on the expensive side too though IMO) but there are no houses with a backyard in Stapelton...so that factor alone ruled that out for us because our dogs needed a yard.

Arvada, I love it too. From our house we are about 20 mins from Denver. It is a pain to go out downtown because after a few drinks we have to get a cab which is pricey but we really don't go downtown so for us that doesn't matter. The closest mall to Arvada is Colorado Mills which is a faux mall but I always find good things there (more like outlet shops)...that is like 10 mins from my house.

We are about 5 mins from old town arvada which is really changing (for the good!) http://www.historicarvada.org/

there are some cute restaurants there and little shops and such.

but ya any questions on the suburbs I know that part! :)
