I don't know if anyone has heard of the book call "400 Calorie Fix" but I think that it is awesome. You eat four 400 calorie meals a day. It has really worked for me. I gained about 10 pounds after I was done with college athletics and it helped me figure out my portion control after that because I was so used to eating a lot more to compensate for all the energy I was expending. I just thought I would get the word out b/c it's a really healthy was that extra weight especially if your working out too. Hope it helps.

What kind of meals do they suggest? I've recently started working out and watching what I eat and I find that... eating healthy feels more expensive than eating junk. Am I doing it wrong or it it really true? I have heard that a lot of obesity occurs in more in the lower income brackets than higher.. maybe it's partially true?

I've heard that eating junk costs less, but I'm not sure if that's entirely true.

If you buy "healthy" as in specifically packaged items advertised as "healthy," then yes I think it costs more. If you buy and cook your food from raw as opposed to pre-packaged, I think it can work out to be relatively the same. However, meats that are lower in fat do generally cost more - leaner ground beef is more expensive, boneless/skinless is more expensive.

I'm no expert by any means, but I've found that I spend LESS eating healthy because I spend more time cooking and preparing my own meals as opposed to eating out all the time.

I agree that a lot of times it's cheaper to eat unhealthy foods. Because I don't typically don't go to work until about 1pm but then I work and go to night class I have been buying my food on Sundays and preparing a lot of it on Sunday night. I usually try to plan my meals before I go shopping so that I can use all of the vegetables and fruits that I buy so that I don't feel like I'm "wasting" my money and letting food go bad. I personally have been making a lot of stir-fry type meals so that I use a LOT of vegetables and just smaller portions of leaner meats like chicken. But by preparing and getting everything ready on Sunday I can bring my dinner with me to work/school and this way I don't eat out. Because it's definitely more expensive to eat healthy when your talking about eating out.

There are A LOT of very healthy recipies you can find online and make at home, problem is when you go out to eat they pack on the fats that's why it tastes so good, you can make your favorite meals at home with less fat.

I've been wanting to get this to read....

Bethenny Frankel :: Naturally Thin

she goes over everything you need to know, I will probably get it soon and read it and I'll let you ladies know.

I've done the Dr. Phil diet previously and in the first phase it's about 1200 calories a day (so between 350/400 per meal + 2 snacks). It WORKS but you cannot keep this up for long.. probably 2 weeks and then must go back to eating a bit more or else your body will store the food. I've lost 6-7 pounds in two weeks without ever feeling hungry (because his diet is packed with protein and fruits/veggies)!

We're heading to playa del carmen in 5 weeks and I am going to start next week just as a boost before the trip. Best way to lose is still healthy eating + exercise... now to only get my butt to the gym more than twice a week.. hahaha
