First off I am really sorry that you're going through this and congratulations on recognizing that at the time you were in the store, the available staff were unable to give you any resolution. A lot of people would have simply freaked out on them, just for even being present!

I agree that first having a discussion with the owner is critical so that you can determine how far they are willing to go to help correct the situation. Dealing with someone who is obviously, and rightfully, upset is one thing but dealing with someone who is irate and behaving irrationally is a whole other issue. Definitely be firm and hold your ground until you are satisfied. Best case scenario, they order you a new dress PRONTO and everything is resolved. Otherwise, look at all the options you can!

Oddly enough I saw this very same problem on Say Yes to the Dress (which I very rarely watch as usually it makes me SO frustrated!).

One of the other girls had mentioned adding a longer layer, which was in essence what they were planning to do on the show, using the same material as the rest of the dress was made from. In your case, I would see if they could possibly make an additional underlayer to your dress so that you maintain the sheath look to it and create an additional layer around the bottom using the same material. So most of the length would be a slip-like material which will prevent it being seen due to the silky nature of your dress material with a wide "hem" of material matching your dress. Plus if it was a full skirt underneath, it could be sewn into the wait where the material already has rouching and you wouldn't see any of the new seams. I don't know if that quite makes sense and of course if its completely not what you want then just do what makes you happy!!!!

Good luck and let us know what happens when you talk to the owner!!

The thing about this dress is there is no other layer underneath it. That's one of the main reasons I picked it because it was light for getting married in Mexico. All the dresses I tried on with under layers were so hot in the store.
The dress has a slit up the side which you can't really tell by the photo.

I went and found the original sales receipt and at the bottom they have a list of their policies. I did not sign a contract. It says all sales are final, no refunds or exchanges. It also says they do not do alterations without the clients undergarments or footwear. So what I'm wondering is they broke their own policy rule. I ordered that dress in July and hadn't looked at the receipt since. When I went in Dec to see the dress and pay the final amount I asked since I live 4hrs away if we could do the fitting (also since the store wasn't busy). They said no problem. They did not bring up anything about their policy and they knew I didn't have any footwear. The only thing discussed was that I was planning on wearing nice flip flops no more than 1 inch thick. Now is this going to be my error because I assumed the seamstress would take that into account?

The owner was suppose to call me at 6pm and it's after 7pm and still nothing. I don't even understand why she couldn't call me 3 days ago when I sent the letter/email. I am getting more and more frustrated by this whole thing as each minute passes it's making me feel sick.

I really just can't believe the nerve of this store and that I am even experiencing this problem.

I did propose to FI that we skip out on the whole wedding attire and just wear somberos. Too bad he didn't go for it.

You should call them first thing tomorrow morning (assuming the owner never called you) and demand a meeting w/ the owner and the seamstress ASAP so they can fix it. I feel they will be much more responsive if you are there talking (screaming?!) to them in person. I applaud you for keeping your cool initially, but going forward, you have to be very firm or they're going to hope you cool down and forget about it! Also, unless the seamstress is there, it'll be hard to understand how they can fix it w/out her showing you personally (assuming it can be fixed of course).

Ugh, I'm so mad for you!!!

OMG! i am so so so sorry this happened to you!! I tried this dress on and did love it as well but I wanted more Puff for my wedding day. I hope they have came up with a suitable solution for you and that they take responsibility for their work and lack there of. I hope they have ordered you a new gown and rush order it for you!!

For a friend of mines wedding we ordered bridesmaids dresses all together and the shop forgot to order the correct amount! They ordered 6 instead of 7 and had the 7th rush made. The dresses came in about a month before the wedding and so the maker of the BM gown maid the dress in 3 weeks at the shops expense!! They paid for that dress, the shipping, alterations everything and were so sorry, but took responsibility for the over site! All was well and the dress came in time for the other BM to wear at her wedding.

I hope this can be done for you as well!!!!! Best of Luck!!

so the update so far is pretty much nothing but me getting the run around. the owner has responded to my emails, saying she would call at certain times and never did. more emails sent by me, another missed call by her. more phone calls made by me with no return call. now she's saying she can't call me until next week.

i am feeling very powerless i have written very firm emails stated what i wanted done. i call and i'm told she's not there or busy and she'll call me back. i live 4hrs away and i've been working. i can't exactly just pop by the store to catch her off guard.

this whole thing is making me sick. i don't even know what to do.

Oh honey I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. I had a similar issue happen to me. The store sample fit me absolutely perfectly except that it was a little long. So the store asked me to buy my shoes before ordering the dress so they could measure and order the proper length. I went in with my shoes and the manager measured me herself. My dress came in about 2 weeks ago and it's a little too short. I didn't freak out in the store because the seamstress told me she could fix it by loosening up the hips and some other alterations so I trusted her and went home. She told me the next fitting would be Feb. 25 which is two months before my wedding (MY wedding is Apri 23 just like yours :)

But the more I looked at the pics the more unhappy I felt. So I called a few times and asked for the manager but was given the run around. I said that if I didn't get a call back from her I was just going to show up in person. I got a call back in 20 minutes.

I was very firm but polite. I told her that they had to move the next alteration date up sooner because Feb. 25 was too close to the date and there would be no time to rectify the situation if I still wasn't happy after the second alteration. I also made it clear that the dress being too short was THEIR RESPONSIBILITY because they were the ones who measured me.

Long story short, the manager moved my next alteration to this coming Monday (Feb. 1st). She also assured me that they would figure out a way to fix this if I still wasn't happy. Even if it means ordering a brand new dress and covering all rushing and alteration fees.

I think you need to stay positive, persistent and firm (but not rude). Speak to the store owner. Take a day off from work and show up at the store. Call them incessantly....stalk them until they get tired of you. Do whatever you have to do because this is way too important. Maybe there's someone at Maggie Ottero you can call to complain about this retailer... there has to be something that can be done. They can always order you a new rush dress. It can be done i they really feel pressed against a wall.

Good luck and keep us updated....trust me I feel your pain. Your dress is just gorgeous and you deserve to be 100% happy with it. Don't give up! There has to be someone that will listen to you and correct the issue.
