Fear of Flying?

I don't like flying either. I usually have anxiety about it a couple of days before a trip. Like AnnaBanana I too find it helps to look at other people and especially the flight attendants. Since they all look relaxed it feels like less of a big deal. Plus I remember that the flight attendants do this a couple of times a day, to them it's just a work day.

 

I actually like landing the most, I get so excited because it's almost over! haha

I made it!! The flight was perfectly fine -- I was more nervous going down there but we had all of our family with us so there was lots of distractions. I also took anxiety pills and that helped a lot. The second flight was a little better too -- I was still nervous but I feel much better now about flying.

What I have found that works is Motion Sickness Arm bands. Now it may sound a little crazy but the press down on a certain pressure point in your wrist and it totally relaxs you. I bought mine at a local grocery store, and I swear by them. I am a very very nervous flyer but 10 minutes with the bands on I am good to go. My MIL to be was so impressed with them she also went and got some for her next trip.

While I don't have a fear of flying, I can't say I particularly enjoy it. It's mostly the airport (not the plane) experience I don't like. In general, I just get bad vibes/karma from people in airports. Everyone's so busy and focused on themselves that they just seem willing to run over one another. And customer service reps and security don't help. They are so irritated by flyers that they're often not the most friendly.

HI, I have the same exact fear, i have terrible, unexplained panic attacks to fly.  I suffer from anxiety in general and flying is my WORST FEAR of all, to the point that I have not gotten on planes and the gate, i just couldnt do it, therefore my luggage went on VACA and not me.

 

I have since then gone to Therapy, that was the ONLY thing that calmed me down was a therapist, it is truly a mind game, you have to practice and put yourself into that situation so your thoughts dont take over common sense.  With a therapist this takes much practice.  And some XANAX too, but I have to almost be in a COMA to get me on a plane.  But with therapy is really helped, they make your realize it truly is not your HEAD and you have to be able to talk yourself out of a panic attack.  I was in therapy for years to overcome anxiety, so i know what you are feeling.  You rather be eaten alive by snakes than fly.....right??........... But you have to keep telling yourself, IT WILL BE OK..........IT WILL BE OK.......I am safe, I am with loved ones, I can do this, I can do this.......People who just say 'GET OVER IT" have no idea what they are talking about........its a serious condition.  Any more advice I can give please email me...........AND YOU CAN DO IT............YOU CAN DO IT.............!!

I went to my doctor to get check ups and shots and just asked for something to calm my nerves during the flight (i get super restless) and she gave me some stuff that makes me super relaxed and sleepy.  I recommend talking to your doctor about solutions like that.

I have a fear of flying also but it seems to be getting better with each flight I go on.  I think for me its just a matter of not having any control lol.  In the past I have taken Ativan to help relax me!
