Yeah no state tax is great in Texas, but I am not loving the weather. Tornadoes most of the year and when no tornadoes it is so hot that you cannot be outside. I am not used to crazy weather like this I guess, the Texans don't seem to mind that much.

 

A Swedish friend of mine lives in Hong Kong with his family and likes it a lot. Personally I would love to move back to Sweden, where you don't have to pay for everything like you do here, but "operation convincing FI" has been going on for a while and still have lengths to go before that will happen.

It took me 1 trip to HK with my FI, and he is sold to the idea.  He loves HK, and almost bought the I LOVE HK T-shirt! lol

Maybe you need to do some excursions with your FI.

As for the weather...I live in a place where it can be -30C in the winter and 36C in the summer.  My boss always says..this is the perfect weather for a fashionista!  Because we really have 4 seasons here, so I can have a 4 seasons rotations on shoes and clothes. 

So I will take the Texans weather, because anything below 10C is not fun.

Well, I grew up with the -30C to 36C weather and 4 seasons, so I know what you're talking about. I am from north of Sweden. Of course I would prefer 25C year round, but I'd rather take the cold than the severe weather any day. I don't miss driving on the ice though.

I will definitely take him to Sweden for a visit before we make any plans, I am hoping that it will make him love it like for your FI and HK.

I dont get to see my family as much as i would like they live quite far away and with me not driving its more difficult (this is going to be my main priority when we get back from Mexico, i was learnign but we found house a lot sooner than we thought!!) .... I am going to visit the weekend of the 5th Nov cant wait to see everone :-) x

 

 

I think it will be a great idea, this is something i want to do, we will suggest it to our guests and hopefully all go together but if not then so be it.... Just suggest it to them and take it from there ......... x 

 I have asked my WC if she could arrange a Day trip to Chichen Itza for about 50 people, Including bus and guide and something like a light lunch.... see what she tells me. ....

All Chichen Itza ( I called it Chicken Pizza) tours include a lunch, because it is 3 hours from Playa Del Carmen.  Usually the guide will pick everyone up at 7am, then pass by Merida, then stop at a local souvenir shop for bathroom break, and then a buffet lunch place with mexican chicks dancing.  Once everyone is fed, they will drop off at Chicken Pizza.  The guide will bring everyone to the ancient mayan soccer field,..sacrifice's cenote..the pyramid that no longer allow people to climb on..etc.  After Chicken Pizza, usually the guide will bring everyone to a natural, clean cenote for a swim, Hacienda (a mexican town) to visit a museum, then back to the hotel by 5-6pm.  Usually it costs around $80-$110 per person.  I prefer small group with a small van, so the guide can spend more time to blah blah, and it is more fun.  I went twice, the first time with my mom, my guide was a major in Mex History, so he gave everyone a very fun and interesting tour with his personal photos and deep knowledge on Mayan's math and astro..etc, at that time, they allowed people to climb on the pyramid, so I actually climbed the whole thing!  The second time, I went with my FI, and I picked a small van as well, the guide was so sweet, we stopped at a local Mayan store next to the highway, and he treated us to some Mexican dragon fruit (freshly picked from the trees..next to the highway).  Last time that I went to PDC with my bbf, she went on a big bus tour ( I didn't go, because I think I know enough to become a chicken pizza guide myself), and she said the guide didn't explain much, but since she can speak Spanish, so she could chat with the guide in Spanish. 

There are so many tour operators that offer the Chicken Pizza tour, you can have a personalized, customized one if you search a bit on the internet.  However, I won't go on a rainy day because...there is nowhere to hide in Chicken Pizza (also bring water, hat and sunscreen for the same reason), so I usually reserve my excursion once I get there or with a tour operator that is flexible on the date.

Since I (and some of my guests)'ve been to Chicken Pizza, and it is a physically demanding tour in the month of July, I would go for a Boat/snorkeling trip with a lunch on the boat as my welcome lunch.

Oh almost forgot to mention, end of March and end of Sept are the high season for Chicken Pizza, because the sunlight will come down like a snake/serpent crawling down the pyramid during those times (so Mayans would know when to plant the seeds and when to harvest in the ancient time).

It's a great idea. Just make sure to find out how long the excursion will be. Depending on where your resort is the drive alone might be upwards of 2 hours each way. If you are staying to the south end of the Mayan Riviera try Coba. Good luck!

It is hard, luckily i have met my nephew on quite a few occassions but now hes getting older its definatly harder, the good thing is though he is starting to talk on the phone so at least i can talk to him. My neice i will meet for the 1st time a week on fri.... counting the days now :-) x

Bonnie, you should become a tour guide yourself... Bloody hell i feel like i have been there after reading your guide!!!! Fab :-) How come you cant climb the pyramid anymore? Health and safety or something?

Thx, but I don't like to work with people anymore, so tour guide isn't for me.

The Coba one is the only one that they still allow people to climb, and it is taller than the Chicken Pizza one.  The thing is these pyramids are very steep (Mayans were pretty fit in the ancient time), so it is difficult to come down after the climb.  My guess is some dumbos got injured, and that is why they no longer allow people to climb on the pyramid. 

To make to clear on what I mean by a clean cenote to swim in, and the one that the Mayans used to dump drunk people in to feed ther gods..

The first pic is the Mayan Sacrifice cenote, they make people drunk, hit them hard in the head to knock them out (all the skeleton they found in that cenote had head fractures)...and then..dump them into the cenote...no struggle and painless death as people would just grooogrooo into the water! lol

The second pic is a clean and fresh cenote with fishes in a rainy day.
