I have been emailing back & forth with Sam regarding videographer. He has been really responsive and seems really great! Unfortunately June 3 is his bday and he won't be able to video my wedding but he can get his assistant to do it. I'm asking for just a video of the ceremony. Here are his prices:

"The rate for the time specified would be $250 (US) and would include all expenses.
The rate for the ceremony footage on 3 dvds would be $300.
My normal rate for creating an official wedding film is $1,500. This includes the pre-ceremony, ceremony, cocktails, photo shoot, and reception. A total of 5 hours. The video is edited with music (provided by you) and it also includes a photo slideshow of the wedding (Photos to be provided by photographer). The film will also come with a DVD menu and package, professionally designed."
he didnt charge me that much...i think i paid him like $800 total...but he is really good...he shoots commercials i think

i'm going to hire him for the ceremony - i was debating just having one of my brothers do the video but if i'm going to do it, i might as well get a professional one. sam has been really responsive to all of my emails and also says they will NOT get in the way of the photographer! i'm paying him $200 for the ceremony plus maybe a little footage before and after... (or $300 to get it on DVD). hopefully it's worth it - this is a last minute decision since i was NOT going to have a videographer but everyone keeps telling me to get one.

jennifer, if you can afford to have him film part of your reception, do it...it flies by so fast and really funny things happen that you will miss...especially with your group....oh to be a fly on the wall at your wedding.

one of your guest who will remain nameless decided not to bring his gf to your wedding because "it would be like bringing sand to the beach"....

Hey Jen,

You are doing exactly what I did. I decided to add a videographer for one hour (ceremony only) at the last minute. It was very inexpensive, but I got what I paid for. He did an okay job, but if you make these simple requests, it will be much better.

1) Have your fiance wear a mic on his shirt. I didn't want one ( i requested that) and on the video, the sound comes in and out (especially during our vows) bcz Sam moved in and out of range from his video mic. If there is a mic on your FI's shirt, then you won't have that problem.

2) request 2 cameramen. I beleive Tammy (Host) had two cameramen, and that is why she had a better experience than me. It might cost a little more, but the editing process will come together much cleaner and no angle will be missed!

3) Most of the shots just after the ceremony were really dark bcz he was shooting right into the sun. So the people were black sillouettes and the ocean came in beautifully. I'm sure there are ways to fix this during filming and he should know how to do this.

4) Make sure to have it edited professionally (either by Sam or a company near your home). The guy who edited my video was able to brighten up the dark sillouette spots, added music, a little slow-mo, and it turned out really good. Who knows, maybe that's how all videos are at first until they're edited? Sam gave us the raw footage and I was horrified when I watched it. It was so boring. Then someone said all raw footage is boring & to have it edited. It was cut down from 90 minutes to 30 minutes & much more exciting!!!

The guy who edited our video did tell us that Sam got some really pretty artistic shots that came together really nicely during editing. That is important and that is where he is really good.

We like our video and watch it a lot. But looking back I wish I had kept him a little longer. Our reception was so fun and both the photographer & videographer left after the first dance. My memories are fading fast and I wish I had captured more of the reception on either video or photos. Oh well...

Sam is good if you don't want to spend a lot of money and want something professional. He uses professional equipment and shoots in High Definition, so no matter what it's going to be better than a "home video".

  • 1 month later...

At the very last minute (one week before our wedding), we were convinced by family and friends that we had to hire a videographer for our wedding. I heard good reviews about Sam and was able to hire him (we just wanted video of the ceremony and speeches & I asked him to stay out of sight from pictures and the audience). He was extremely responsive and great to work with!!

I wasn't sure how the video would come out but we just got my DVDs in the mail last night and we absolutely LOVE our video!!! I am SO HAPPY that we decided to get a video and that we used Sam! He came with an assistant so there are many different angles and he also included footage of us afterwards being congratulated by family and friends and on the beach afterwards (put to music), as well as our speech to our guests (where I had completely forgotten what I said). There was so much of the day that I had forgotten or missed or was a blur and it is really special to have a video!!! It was extra special to receive it last night and to be able to watch it together before we leave on our honeymoon (tonight!).
