Costa Rica - October 2010

Hello All...

 

My fiancee and I are planning on getting married in Cost Rica this coming October ( I know I need to get moving). I was wondering if anyone has gotten married or even stayed at either the Occidental Grand Papagayo or Paradisus Playa Conchal. Both places look nice but I've seen some bad reviews on trip advisor on both. Please help!

 

FYI - We are having a very small (only immediate family) wedding and I'd really live to get married on the beach.

Congratulations Dawnster! I didn't get married in CR but we did go there for our honeymoon. It's a beautiful country! We didn't stay at either of those resorts but I wouldn't worry too much about trip advisor...someone is always going to have something bad to say.

Hello Dawn,

 

Both places have their pluses but the one thing you want to watch is the tide at Occidental GP, if it is high, there is no beach for a ceremony. Paradisus has one of the prettiest beach areas in the country (Flamingo to Playa Conchal). Keep in mind that you will be going in the middle of the rainy season in that area (it is the strongest in the area around this time). We have had many happy clients with both places.

Thanks ladies...we are going to talk to a TA this weekend. hopefully it will help clear some things up.

 

FYI - Requested more info from Occidental Grand and Paradisus about two weeks ago and have yet to hear anything back...I'm guessing this is typical.

Hi Dawn,

I've stayed at the Occidental Grand Papagayo in Costa Rica for Vacation & I have to say, It's a beautiful resort. The food is great & the staff is very attentive. They also have a sunset walk that they do with guest everyday. Everyone gets together & walks up to a nearby mountain where you have a perfect view of the ocean. As the sun sets... The view is breathtaking. Just some FYI, that (sunset walk) would be a great location for exchanging vows as well!!

Hi Dawn, Congrats on making the decision... I wish I could!! We were thinking of having our wedding in Sept 2010, but have now changed it to April 2011. How did you decide on Paradisus Playa Conchal? I keep going back and forth between a few, but can't seem to narrow it down. Have you found a good contact there that has been very helpful, or did you just go through a local TA?

Hey KJW - We decided on Paradisus when we went to see a travel agent. The agent said it was one of the best places she has ever stayed. She said it's not on the same level with Occidental Grand. For a TA to love a place that much, with as much as they get to travel and stay at nice places, that pushed us further towards Paradisus. I've had no luck getting in touch with the resrot planner myself but she's been in touch with my TA...so that's a good start!
