BC / Vancouver / Canadian brides - help!

Recommended Posts

My hubby and I are from Squamish, BC and we hired a marriage commissioner and got legally wed down by the river very near our house! Our big symbolic ceremony is going to be in the Mayan Riviera this April. I just googled marriage commissioners for this area and picked one! It was actually a really beautiful day and very special considering we didn't put too much thought it into it as it was just to get things done legally. I ended up getting a simple white dress from Sears for $60 and picked up a bouquet and a few gerber daisies for my daughter to carry. Also a girlfriend of mine came down and took some fantastic pics of us too! Then after it was all said and done we cracked some drinks from the cooler we brought down! My hubby's parents cannot come to our Mexico wedding but they were there for our legal one so that was nice to have them included in some way. Cannot wait for the next wedding though!!! He's so nice, I'm going to marry him twice!;)

I'm also getting legally married here in Vancouver.  My wedding isn't until spring 2014, and I've decided to legally get married here on the same day that I'm getting married in The Dominican, that way our marriage license will be the same date as our wedding date.  I have only told very close family and our witnesses.  We are having an officiate from a local spiritualist church officiate our wedding, as she does them all the time.  We're just going to book with a small church in the area that our officiate has done small wedding ceremonies in before. Just something super small an intimate, we wanted to get legally married here as I'd rather be legally married in my own country, plus this ceremony is very important for our grandmothers as they will not be able to attend the DW.

We are doing the exact same thing! Getting legally married back here in Mississauga one year before we get married in Mexico. We've told my parents and his parents, and we're thinking probably my grandmother and his brother, that's it. (Well, I told all my work girlfriends but none of them will be coming to the wedding, so it doesn't hurt for them to know!). We're just going to go to city hall, get married and have a small dinner out afterwards. No big thing- and I won't be telling any guests until after we get married down in Mexico, if I even decide to tell them at all!

We too are going to do the legal paper work at my home in Ontario about 2 weeks prior. We are just signing the documents without any words being exchanged and having 2 friends here to witness it.   However, my officiant will be travelling with us to Cuba to perform the symbolic ceremony there and he will complete all the paperwork in Cuba.  As long as we exchange our vows down only at the ceremony in Cuba, that is what we will use as our anniversary date.  The other date is just a formality!

Jenny2014 and Bride2B26 - You girls are definitely on top of things! Symbolic weddings in Mexico are much easier and less hassle. To have a legal wedding in Mexico you have go get blood tests and witnesses and bring copies of your birth certificates and what not, AND you have to arrive usually 4 business days before the ceremony date.....definitely much much much more work needed that's for sure! You can spend that time and effort on other things that are also important, like your dress and shoes!

Bride2B26 - Not sure if you have your dress yet but there now is a David's Bridal in Langley, BC, and they have quite the selection for Brides / Bridesmaids / Mother of the Bride.

Good luck and happy planning =)

I am contacting Ann Moore tomorrow!

By the way, how is it htat I cannot view the marriage ceremony script? I'd love to have a read.

Is it possible if you could send me a private message to my inbox?

THank you very much ladies.
