BC / Vancouver / Canadian brides - help!

Recommended Posts

I'm not in BC either but we're in the same situation. We were hoping for a quickie courthouse legal ceremony but we're in the same boat. We need to find a marriage commissioner asap (april is a busy wedding month!) and get our appt to get legal so that we are legally married before our wedding!

Thanks Kate, hopefully it will turn out fine. We need to pick a date and then find someone that is available on that day! We will be going it here though, even with everything considered it should be easier.

We're also thinking of doing it at home - it would be sweet to get married where we got engaged! Should make for good photos too! :)

Glad I found this thread cuz I was wondering what we were going to do ourselves. I think Ann has married a few of my family members but of course I can't ask them because we don't want anyone to know we are doing the legal thing here. I was worried this was going to get complicated but it sounds like it won't be too bad if we can find a commissioner we like. Thanks for all the info!

Same situation for Alberta unfortunately! I had looked to see if it was different in BC so that we could just drive on over. I have family in Ontario and you can do a legal marriage at the court houses there, but we have no excuse to visit them before/after our wedding in Mexico so that was out too.

I got a recommendation from another bride, as you did, and she said her legal signing took about ten minutes flat. They stressed to the marriage commissioner that they wanted the most basic and non-wedding like ceremony possible. And that's exactly what they got! We're definitely going to go the same route since no one knows that mexico isn't the legal part! Haha, and maybe even having a fellow BDW'er as our witness!!

It's actually not that complicated at all. We used Ann Moore too. We went to London Drug got our marriage license, called her that day (they give you a list of all the marriage commissioners with their email and phone # where ever you get your license) and went to her house the next day. Said some vows, signed the paperwork and went on our merry way.

It was just about the same as going to City Hall honestly.

Ann had amazing vows-Simistar posted them earlier and we actually used them again in Mexico. But I think you can request to say whatever words your would like as long as the "legal" part is said.

I wouldn't stress...it's seriously not that different than going to city hall!!!!

Hello Ladies,

I am also from Vancouver and am doing the legal work down here prior to going to mexico! We actually are happy to be doing the legal ceremony here. Our families know and this is how we plan to appease the grandma's since they cannot come along to mexico ehehe.

Thanks for Ann's contact info! Congrats on your up coming "weddings" :)

Good Luck. I am thankful that my boyfriend works at a place where he knows a commissioner to can do the legal service for us. I downloaded the marriage certificate application from BC Vital Sats...

It only takes 15 days to get it so that is the easy part. Can you imagine trying to get legally married in Mexico...

As for getting legally married in Mexico....I would question the authenticity way to much!! Also...I think it is crazy to let a Mexican near you with a needle...! (I am a nurse...psychiatric nurse and quite paranoid as you can see). I think its a lot easier to get the legal stuff done down here anyways!

She's REALLY sweet and REALLY loves doing weddings...so it's not just like she's rambling off the words...
I contacted Ann and she will be out of town, along with a few other commissioners! She did sound lovely and seemed genuinely sad to be unable to officiate. We did find someone though, and so we will be getting married in our living room on the 23rd of this month. I'm excited!

Thank you everyone for your comments & suggestions! smile03.gif
