Good hotels for seniors/older folks

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Looking for some advice. We really want to have a destination wedding, but I am very concerned for some of our guests who are older and have trouble walking. The last resort I stayed at was so big that it was such a long walk to get from your room to dinner, to the pool etc...and the roads we stone and sort of uneven.

Anyway, I am looking for any recommendations for places that are friendly for senior citizens who have trouble walking and getting around.

any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jenna

Where are you getting married, Jenna - and how many guests do you plan to have? I got married 2 weeks ago today in Cabo. We chose the Hilton for our location. We've been there many times before but one of the reasons I like it so much is because it seems small and intimate compared to the all-inclusive resorts. We had 11 guests and some in their 50's, 60's, 70's and even my 85 year old mother. Only one couple were in their 30's. Not sure where you're getting married but it seems to me that the majority of the all-inclusive resorts are just huge and you have to walk a lot, like you said. If you're not having too many guests, maybe a resort that is not all-inclusive would be smaller. Also, some resorts have golf carts to help people get around.

We are getting married at Beaches Negril, and havent been there yet (and it is big) but I know for sure that they have handicapped accessible rooms and are placing our grandparents on the first floor to eliminate the need to climb stairs. I would ask the travel agents on this site if they have any suggestions as well (my travel agent prob could help you are well if you need)... best of luck!

Hi Jenna,

Well I haven't been there yet but I have heard that the layout of Dreams Riviera Cancun is quite good. The important amenities are all centrally located and it's 5 mins to everything. I have also read a couple of reviews where the people said (one person was in a wheelchair and the other had MS) that they found the resort very easy to navigate, and as well the staff were very helpful in assisting them when they needed it.
