Loved the Dress/Hated the Photos

Recommended Posts

Oh hun I hear you on this. I look at my dress pics all the time and say WTF was I thinking. Everyone else LOVES it but Im still find myself looking at other dresses. I am pretty sure you will have plenty of time to have yours ordered in Jan. Just try and shy away from ones that will take a good year to make. What I would do is know your budget and timing let them know and start pulling :)

BIGGEST ADVICE I wish someone had told me..... take a picture of you in the dress and then decide!!!! I'm a two dress bride because when I saw the pictures of myself in the first dress I wanted to puke. Literally cried about it for 3 days until the store said they'd give me credit (unheard of here!). BUT, I did find THE dress. And how I found that dress... was take pictures of you in everything possible. You'll then see what fit is flattering to you. Then go from there. Good Luck, I know you will find one!!!! =)

I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles....

And THAT is why I think it is ridiculous that smaller, "private" bridal salons don't allow you to take photos of yourself in each dress you are considering spending a large quantity of money on BEFORE you buy it! (Only after I agreed to purchase my Sottero & Midgley and the invoice was being drawn up was I permitted to take pics for my scrapbook)! Thank GOD I loved it then and I still love it now -- I'm one of the lucky ones, I guess!

You know, I think a lot of headaches for both the bride AND the salon could be avoided if brides were able to take pics, "sleep on it" and carefully consider how the gown looks in photographs when preparing to make one of the most important garment purchases in their lifetime!

And here is where a place like David's Bridal shines: so their gowns may not be made of the most luxe materials or by the best designers, but I have to say that it's pretty awesome that they DO NOT have an anti-photo policy; as a matter of fact, their consultants will actually TAKE the pictures for you if like! I had a wonderful experience there when I tried on about 10 dresses, took pics of all of them, and found my perfect AHR dress!

MY FINGERS ARE CROSSED EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR YOU TO GET YOUR DREAM DRESS (AND LOTS OF PICS OF YOU IN IT BEFORE YOU PUT ANY MONEY DOWN!)

Maybe try a few dresses on, and post a poll here on BDW if your torn between a couple of gowns?

We may be just the unbiased audience you need!

So true about these no photos policies....even the big ones have them. I went to Kleinfeld and they had the same policy...as did the store I purchased this dress from which is also a large bridal shop. We snuck and took photos the first time we went and I convinced myself that the pictures did not look good because we were rushed and I did not pose. Their policy was to only allow pics once purchased...you are right...this could have been avoided. It has occurred to me that perhaps one of the reasons that they do not allow pictures is because they know that if we see the pictures up-front, we might not be as in love with the dress.

Such good advice above to try to take a picture if you can before purchasing.

Thank you all for the encouraging words....I will definitely come back here and post with pics of the dress if I have any doubts the next go round.

Also..thanks for the Alfred Angelo suggestion...will look into it although the shop I purchased this dress from had a quite a few of their plus-size samples.

I am going to ditto what Carly said. You really do need to try on EVERY dress you can before you find the right one. I got a dress that was totally not what I was looking for or thought would look good on me, but as soon as I put it on I loved it. Totally not the style I thought would look good. So, just try them all on, you might be suprised at what looks good on you. Fingers crossed that you get a dress soon.
