Loved the Dress/Hated the Photos

Recommended Posts

Well, I have had a bit of wedding dress drama these past two days. I have spoken of the limited range of samples to try on for plus-sizes. I was lucky enough however to on my very first trip find THREE dresses that I really liked...one of which I loved. I had been all over the place looking for a dress and went in yesterday to purchase my dress...which I did. Then I had buyers remorse. I always knew that I did not have on just the right foundation as the dress hides nothing. Now that we had purchased the dress, they allowed us to take pictures. I hated the dress in earlier pictures but everyone told me that I looked great in it and that the pictures did not reflect how the dress truly looked. Well..when I saw the pictures from yesterday...I knew that there was no way that I could wear that dress. I thought about it all day and called the shop today. They said that they would charge me a $25 restocking fee and refund the rest....thank goodness.

Now I don't know what to do. All along I saw another dress that I loved but no one has it for me to try on or they say that they will not have the dress in stock until the end of January...really cutting things close for my July wedding. Also, as a plus size bride...there are just not that many places to go to try on plus-size samples. I have thought about ordering my dress on-line, but what if it turns out to be a disaster? I also saw a dress from a store in China that I wanted to order for my TTD which I may order. My family says that I will wind up getting the very same dress....that it just was not fitted properly to me.

I really thought that I had it together....I guess not!!

Oh Danielle, I know EXACTLY how you feel!!!

I bought a dress. It was beautiful. Once I owned the dress I was able to take pictures. I got home, looked at the pictures... and INSTANTLY hated it!!!! I loathed that dress. It just didn't look good on me. Everyone said I was nuts and that it was fine. Well, it was MY wedding day and I had to feel good. I could care less what everyone else thought about how I looked. I was the one that needed to feel beautiful.

So I bought a second dress. And it was only two months before my wedding. So I think you should definitely try on that dress in January, or keep searching for other places to try dresses on.

Good luck!

Lol at "loathed that dress" funny

Danielle, so sorry that the dress didn't work for you, but "The dress" is out there for you.
I agree, I would definitely wait until I could try on the dress. You have plenty of time between January and July. I wouldn't go to far past January IMO.

Me too, wait until you can try the dress you love in January. If you are on the bigger size you need good material and boning?sp to hold you in and up etc.I wouldnt take a chance on ordering a dress from china.Just wait a while THEN way up your options. x xx

Oh D that sucks... I am a plus size gal too and second time bride and older... I hear and feel your pain. I went out dress shopping early Jan this year for my wedding in a few weeks. what a disappointment.. I found very limited amounts of plus sizes or just too much dress for me..

What I did that may work for you is I looked at clothing I currently wear that I enjoy the fit and feel of and I looked at dresses with simular cut and lines. I printed pictures and went to a seamstress and had my dress custom made to my body type. I am very happy with my dress and it was actually very inexpensive. If you need some photos to get an idea I can post them... Chin up hun you'll find that dress or create it.

I bought a dress online that I LOVED, I even loved the way it looked when I looked in the mirror. But in pictures, I just looked lumpy. I was even too embarrassed of them to show them on here and that's saying alot! I was able to return that dress with no fees and eventually went back to a couture dress that I had loved from day 1.

If it doesnt' look good in photos, no matter how you FEEL in it, you will not be happy. Photos are the only thing you have once the wedding is over!

I went dress shopping with a friend who is also a plus-size and she had the best luck in David's Bridal. Her intentions were to go there to try everything on and get an idea of what looked good on her and then she can purchase the dress anywhere, but she ended up loving one there on our first trip.

My only advice would be to try any and every dress on. (As long as it's not too much $ cuz you don't want to fall in love with one you can't afford!) Sometimes what we love and what looks good on us are completely different, so you might surprise yourself. I've seen it happen so many times on here. Good luck with the shopping!

Thank you all for the advice. I will take your advice and try to wait until January for the dress I want to try on. I'm just concerned because you always hear that you need to purchase your dress 6 months out. What I can't figure out is why the dress is available on-line for sale yet no one seems to have it in stock? It also has been on the maker's website for at least a month or so.

I'm trying to regroup. I made an appointment at a local store this weekend that claims to have some plus samples in the styles I like.

Susie...I would love to see your pictures and thanks for offering!!

Carly...I went to David's Bridals but had no luck...they didn't have the style of dress I was looking for. Maybe I will have to also try other styles too as suggested.

I'm so sorry, I think you should wait until January though when you can try on the other dress. I'm sure the dress is out there for you and you will find it! That still gives you almost 7 months which is plenty of time, my friend got her wedding dress 3 months before the big day with no problems on having it finished in time to fit her.

You will find the right dress! Don't lose hope. I think the bridal places tell you 6 months to prevent last minute orders. Seriously they told me 2-3 month and it came in 2 weeks. And wtf is up with the sizes that the shops carry? I swear they would have a size 0 or a 22 when I was looking. Good luck sweetie and post some pics to get outsider opinions. It will help :o)
