ROR reception, speeches and the DJ...

Recommended Posts

Hello brides, past and present!

I wanted to get some advice from brides at the ROR - I am having my reception at 8:30 at the private poolside and was wondering what people did for the music.

We wanted to have the DJ come (was he any good?) and were wondering what time we should book him from (start to finish). From experience did you do speeches right away and then the music after? Did your speeches last 30 min approximately? I don't want to pay for him to come and the first half hour or so we have speeches and I lose out on 30 min of the 1 hour service. What do you think?

Also was the music any good - should I bring a copy of "our song" for him to play?

Thank you so much!

From my experience, if you plan on using the DJ, I highly suggest that you bring your own music if there is a certain genre of music that you will want to hear. I would definitely bring a copy of "your song" along with anything else that you want to hear.

In the disco & at my reception, the DJ played mainly current R&B/Hip Hop & Reggae, a little bit of disco, but will gladly play any music that you bring. We also had 2 different DJ's, the DJ that played during my reception & then the DJ that played when the disco opened up to the public.

The last time I was there in June & went to the disco, the DJ was good & I think their goal is to get people dancing/partying.

You can either bring your Ipod & use a playlist, but double check that they will have an Ipod connection poolside. The times that I was at ROR the DJ used his laptop.

If you don't plan on using an Ipod just make sure you have your music on CD's & label them.

In terms of speeches, our reception was at the disco so we did all of our speeches there, at the end of our private time & right before the disco opened up to the public. I don't think they lasted 30 minutes.

Here are a few threads that discuss the DJ & Music:

We had the DJ come after we did speeches and he stayed a lil longer for us, but of course we gave him a lil xtra$$ to stay. As for music selection i told him what i wanted and he stayed within that mix of music. I wouldn't say thier music selection is limited, but if you really want to make sure you have something played...bring it with you.

The T shaped table should not be a problem. As long as your dinner is not on the night of the beach party, hearing shouldn't be a big issue. If anyone else is making a speech & concerned about getting everyone else's attention, they could always come stand next to you & your DH at the head of the table to catch everyone's attention.
