Hi Everyone,

My name is Sara, and I am about to marry the love of my life next May or June. (really hoping for May 12th or June 12th 2010)

I have fallen in love with the reviews and pictures from RPTB, and was hoping to hear reviews from some other bride's about this location before we book anything.

Many of the bad reviews I've seen are from people with children, or from before the renovations, and would love to know about recent weddings.

Also, one of my fears is feeling like its a "cookie cutter" wedding. Everything else about our wedding is very non-traditional, except for the beach part. I just want to make sure it still going to feel like my day, and not like I'm just one bride of many.

Any hints or suggestions would be very well appreciated. :)

Thank you!

Hi Sara!

Firstly, welcome and congratulations!

RIU Tropical Bay is one of the places on my list for potential wedding locations and for the same time of year! (May, June, or Aug 2010). I have heard nothing but amazing things about it and from the research I have done RIU does great weddings. They do a lot, but that seems to only attest to their adeptness. Furthermore, from what I have read, most brides don't seem to get that cookie-cutter feeling simply because it is their day and the only thing they are thinking about is their life partner -- not the other weddings. I wouldn't worry about that.

There should be a section on reviews where you can find info on RPTB. If you do a search through the forums, I am sure it will come up.

Cheers!

Hi Sara,

Many Congrats and welcome, im new here also.

Alexandra and I are getting married at RIU Tropical Bay in November 2009, we are coming from Spain (but from the UK). So far everything seems to be going well from the planning point of view and we have a lady called Keneika on hand in resort that is answering our questions and helping us with arrangements.

We cannot confirm anything for 2 more months but they do have 2 or 3 weddings per day at differnet time slots, ours is at 4pm and the last of the day, as we wanted Sunset pictures etc. We have the Royal Wedding Package arranged, the cake (external), the photographer (external vendor) all arranged already in advance.

There are some reviews on here that you can read through, I will let you know how things go with arrangements and will do a review after the event.

Best of Luck

Simon

Hi All

We've just returned from our wedding at RPTB and it was totally perfect. We didnt feel at all like we were on some kind of wedding production line as although there are some standard things you have to do/choose from each wedding we saw was different in terms of size, style and location. We were a very small group and chose the beach but we also saw some that were simply the couple or bigger groups that used the gazebo or the beach. You really can make it your day.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to share my experiences.

It really was the most perfect and personal day we could have hoped for.

Clare

We got married at RPTB in April. Ignore the vast majority of reviews on TripAdvisor and form your own opinion. My best advice is take a deep breath and relax. Dont go crazy focusing on the stupid little details that no one remembers anyway. Yes RPTB does multiple weddings per day, but who cares? Focus on you and yours, dont worry about what other wedding parties. I sure didnt. We even had our reception dinner with another bridal party at the Steakhouse -- no problem, mon. We didnt even notice they were there and their party was twice the size of ours. You can make your wedding as simple or as intricate as you wish by adding your own DIY projects and all that other wedding stuff.... As for my wedding -- we kept it as simple as humanly possible. We had no extras and that's exactly the way we wanted it. Bottom line -- your wedding will be as awesome and memorable as YOU make it! Good luck! Jamaica and RPTB ruled in our opinon! We're going back next year! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

I promise to post my review this week!

I got married august 7th and LOVED it! We both have a daughter... his is 1 1/2 and mine is 8 and they had so much fun there. I really wouldn't worry about kids being there. There are 2 pools that are about 4ft deep and a kiddie pool, also. I could see my 8yr old at all times, while having fun at the swim up bar lol and floating the baby in her tube. Just remeber to bring pool floats, beach ball, etc.. to keep them occupied. The beach is so near and like bath water.

Our ceremony was great! I was very pleased with it.

We went to Sandals the following week and the whole time I was wishing we were back at the Riu. I found it alot better.

PM me if you have any specific questions.

Hi and Congrats!

We were booked for Riu Negril for May 22nd 2010... And we rebooked for Riu Montego Bay for May 29th 2010... I just want to say... The Calendar shows not very much open if anything left at all. I know We coinsidered Riu tropical bay as it shows to be a crowd favorite and all..

But we couldnt get anything near May 22nd..( or a saturday booking really) so Nora Martinez emailed us and said a saturday was open but a week later... for Montego bay.. so WE changed our day just so We could go to RMB instead.

I liked the look of negril but personally didnt want to have to worry about all our transfers from the airport ... Which isnt a huge deal but all our party agrees once we land... we wanna get the party started!shots.gif

Good luck i know it IS NOT EASY trying to get a place figured out , let alone reserved.

Just keep in mind that Montego Bay is nice, but it's also a central town atmosphere near the resort. It takes about an hour bus ride (with a stop if you want to for drinks and food on the way) from the airport and the transfer bus area desks you walk past in the airport before you go outside, so it's easy to find the correct bus. I'm not knocking Montego Bay though. Just want to say it's not that far to go down to Negril to the other Riu's.

Also keep in mind that the RPTB is owned by the palace chain now and is the only Riu that is. We picked it because I stayed at the Cancun Palace last year and was pleased very much with it. When I heard that the Palace chain bought a Riu in Jamaica... I booked my ceremony at the RPTB.

Either way, you'll find the WC's very nice and easy going. Don't worry about your day because they do absolutely everthing to make it just perfect. They'll even wait out the rain for you.

Good luck ladies!

Good luck on all of your choices ladies.
