Awww, that sucks. I'm sorry. I bet you were so excited the wedding was almost a year away, but I agree with some of the other suggestions...maybe you can plan it for May 2011 instead? Give people another 4 or 5 months to save up after their summer plans and holidays (and they could use their tax money to help them with the trip?). I know what you mean though. We already had to change our date to another 6 months later because of important people scheduling conflicts and money issues and I almost feel like just going to the courthouse or having a really small wedding in the park and whoever can make it, does. It's weird how much you have to cater to others for a day that is supposed to be one of the happiest of your lives. It's like they don't want it to happen (?). I know it's not true, but sometimes it sure feels like it. Good luck in whatever you end up doing.

Oh honey, I know exactly how you feel! We were engaged three years ago (Christmas '06) and the wedding was originally going to be in 2009, then 2010, now 2011, and it may be 2012 before it's all said and done! So I understand how heartbreaking it is to have to say "Oh no, not ANOTHER year!" But you WILL get there, and when you do, it will be absolutely amazing :) Think of it as more time to plan so you can be more relaxed about the whole thing, and more time to save so you can buy some super fabulous shoes and an amazing dress ^_^ You just need to weigh the pros and cons when it comes to postponing and make your final decision from there.

Good luck!

I am sorry Jen that really does sucksad.gif But I agree with the other girls, as hard as it is you got to look on the bright side of things. More time to save, more time at the spa:) We had to push back our wedding as well at first. I was kind of annoyed at my family so i made it abundantly clear that we are pushing it back one time and one time only. And if people cannot make it on the new date then i guess that it was very unfortunate but they would not be able to attend and that we would see them at the bbq when we got back. I now it sounds harsh, but you cannot please everyone!

good luck!

They have to make the sacrifice for you, not the other way around.
And don't get me wrong, I am VERY close with my family, but I just refuse to put my life on hold for other people's plans. I say be more selfish.
We are accomodating Riley's sisteractually. We had all planned to take the kids to Disney in July 2011 but they dont think they will be able to afford both. She is my MOH and I need her there just as much as Riley does. I dont want to stress them out to try and save for both right away and that seems to be whats happening.
The funny thing is that the wedding was set for 6 months prior to Disney and now its set for 6 months after Disney. Im not sure how 6 months will make that much more of a difference, but I really hope it does. Plus they werent bringing the kids before bc of Disney but now the plan is to bring them. So we are moving it bc of expenses, but it was just the two or them initally and that was hard to afford, and now there are four of them...so wouldnt that be just as hard to save for in 6 months...maybe moreso then just the two of themhuh.gif I dont know what to think, or maybe my logic is just screwed up....but it makes no sense to me, bc its going to cost them so much more now then it would have then.
So I keep smiling and look forward to Disney with my family and extended family and keep the light at the end of the tunnel bright by coming on this site and living vicariously through all of you....lol

Thanks ladies for listening to my rant...I appreciate the support!!!!smile03.gif

At least once a day I actually say "FML" out loud. It's starting to become my motto I think lol

And don't worry about ranting, because it really is frustrating at first. But once it sinks in and you say "Okay, it's postponed, I can't change it" then you begin to say "Yeah, okay. Well now I can save more for this, and I can do this in the meantime, and then we'll include this too" and it actually sounds like an awesome idea :) So don't worry, I'm perfectly fine with postponing, and in time you will be too ^_^

AND, if you're going to Disney in 2011 anyway, how about getting married there? We were going to, but it got pretty expensive for our families flying from Newfoundland. It's less than $5000 for the ceremony, bouquet, cake, etc, pretty much everything but a reception. Not sure if the rest of your family would be up for a Disney vacation instead of a Caribbean one, but it's something to think about :) And it's definitely not cheesy, even though it sounds like it, they're actually beautiful weddings ^_^ Just something to think about...

  • 2 weeks later...

Bless your heart! Here is the place to vent because i PROMISE you, we all understand. I moved my wedding from a destination to Atlanta to be accomodating to family. I will echo what others have said, you won't be able to accomodate everyone!!! However, i will also tell you that the two years will FLY by!!!! And before you know it, you will be having the wedding of your dreams with your prince charming!

PS: i sooooo LOVE the disney wedding idea. But then again, i am a disney FREAK!
