I keep reading about the traditional window of time to send out save the dates, etc. But for a destination wedding, isn't it better to send them out further in advance? Seems like since guests will need to plan not only for the cost but time off work as well, the more lead time the better. Would 1 year in advance be too early?

I don't think 1 year is too early for save the dates. Ideally, you want to give your guests a good amount of time to save up! A few of our friends may have already planned their winter vacations if we didn't give them lots of lead time. And wow, the time does fly...
