July 2010 Wedding - Paradisus, Majestic Elegance or Dreams - HELP!!!

We are looking to get married in DR in July 2010. Does anyone have any recommendations on travel agents or prices flying from Toronto and Calgary in July.

We are finding these resorts to be quite high. Our quotes are around the $1800-$2000 mark and we are hoping to stay closer to $1500-$1700.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

We found that the prices through our local travel agents were quite high as well and booked through the Flight Centre. (Discount Travel | Air Travel | Travel Agency) We called to get a group quote so we still have a specific travel agent to deal with.. he's just not local but he's very nice! The other thing that is nice is that you can look at the rates before calling to get an idea of what the price will be, although the price was a little lower when it was for the group.

I started looking 1 1/2 year in advance and the prices quote were pretty high compared to what we actually ended up paying. The Elegance and Paradisus are 2 of the best hotels in Punta Cana so you can't expect it to be inexpensive to stay there, even in July. Have you tried WestJet vacations? They were the cheapest (from Ottawa) for any hotel we looked at. They are relatively new so they are very well priced.

We are getting married at Dreams Punta Cana in July... our TA was able to negotiate us a really good "early booking" rate of $1078 + tax from Toronto. Now, this has gone up, and still fluctuates, but I checked on Selloffvacations.com the other day (the company through which we booked) and it is showing only around $1150 + tax I think?

Once you get a rate they can only lock it in for a week I believe, and after that it could change again. I really like Dreams, and I really like Majestic. Either/or you will be impressed! And from what I hear, Paradisus is wonderful as well

Thank you all for your help.... Is it better to book through a travel agent and get a group package? How long do they usually give you until your 10 people need to book by?

Also, does anyone know if Westjet vacations flies to Punta Cana in the summer? My travel agent was saying that they dont have their summer schedule out, and sometimes don't fly in the summer season..
