Sandals Dunns River Villagio to close July 30th

Sad news...I am so sad about the closure for Sandals Dunns River Villagio as it is a lovely resort with fantastic staff!

 

The land was actually leased (happens alot on jamaica! ) and the owner of Sandals & Beaches Resorts, Mr Stewart had wanted to full out purchase the property when the lease came up for renewal in 2010- the owners however did not want to sell and had substantially increased the lease price to 50 million US Dollars for 10 years!

 

As they could not reach an agreement Mr. Stewart is letting the property drop from the Sandals portfolio. A very sad thing as it always had high occupancy levels and was a great resort!

 

They did work out a deal where they will allow Sandals to honor reservations through July 30-if you try to book anything after that it will not allow you to.

 

They will re-accommodate at another Sandals ptoperty for those who are already booked after that date.

Oh my....does that happen often? That is where we are going for our honeymoon...

It does not happen often - very rarely actually! But it is one of the reasons that Mr Stewaryt prefers to outright own all of his properties and not lease the land!

 

You are very, very lucky to be able to experience it before it closes!

OMG! I am having my honeymoon there as well. Do you think it will affect the quality of service Maureen?

TA Jennifer here! I do not think that the quality will be affected at all - the Gm of the property -Mr Grant has always done an amazing job at the resort and with his employees and I cannot see that he would let the last few months be anything diferent. My clients have always had the best service-above & beyond what was expected, and a wonderful time at Sandals Dunns River Villagio, I have actually never had a complaint and it is all due to Mr. Grant being at the helm!

Thanks for th einfo. I have read such great reviews on this location. It suppose to be beautiful and relaxing and great for honeymooning...I am looking forward to the change of pace after the riu wedding.

I hope they move the pizza to SGOR! It was amazing!!

My parents visited the resort while they were vacationing at the other property in ocho rios. They said they loved it and were sad that next year for their return visit, they couldn't go there. I hope everyone enjoys the next few months left there!
