I actually went through the same dilemma but in the end I am very glad I wore a pair of flat sandals from JCrew that has a lot of "bling" on the t-strap.

 

Check out this pair of J LO sandals - Sequins and espadrille on a wedge make for one dramatic fashion statement. This may work out better with your dress.
