Anyone getting legally hitched before Mexican wedding?

Recommended Posts

This is our plan to go to the courthouse right before we leave. We won't be exchanging rings or anything to us it is just paperwork, our wedding in Mexico is our real wedding. I think most brides end up doing this because it really just makes things a little easier and I personally don't want to deal with the paperwork and blood tests in Mexico.

We want our maid of honor and best man to be the witnesses on our marriage certificate. They are meeting us in Mexico from other countries / places in the world, so won't be able to make a legal ceremony in the US AND THEN go to Mexico. So we're doing the legal thing in Mexico... despite the blood tests and wait periods...

Maybe we'll just do a quick and easy legal ceremony the night before the spiritual ceremony. I want at least some of the wedding to be in english...

We are getting married in the US at the courthouse a couple weeks before. We don't want the stress of the blood test and all the documents when we get to Mexico. We made the mistake of telling my dad, and he did not like the idea at all. We decided to tell everyone we changed are minds and are now keeping it a secret. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but it was. As a lesson be careful of who you tell. I also like the idea of going to Vegas to get married!

i know what you mean. i wanted it to be just the two of us but FI thinks we'll regret it later if our parents aren't there b/c it is the "official, legal" ceremony. to me the real thing will be in cancun which is why i kind of wish it wasn't such a hassle to get married there...i don't want the legal ceremony to take away from the one in mexico. anyway now both sets of parents are going to the courthouse along with my brothers, and we're going to dinner afterward...don't know how i feel about it but it's important to FI so i guess i'll give him this one

I don't think it's ridiculous. It just seems like it's a hassle. I'm getting married legally in the US the week before because we're not going to get to the resort 3 full business days before the ceremony and I don't want to deal with the blood tests and most importantly I want my ceremony to be in English. I really don't care what my certificate says. The ceremony in Mexico will be the date I go by.

We're planning to marry before we go as well. The requirements were just too much to do it there. We were both married previously, and apparently you need to get your divorce decrees and birth certificates translated into spanish/certified which from what I understand, is pretty pricey.

I haven't figured out how and where we'll do it beforehand, so I'd better get moving!

Can anyone tell me the reasons why they are getting married in the states first? From my opinion I want the Mexico wedding to be the "first" of the two. We are planning on getting married the day we get back. We are going to celebrate the Mexico wedding date. I agree with the rest of you, the important date is when you make the PROMISE to one another, not when you sign a piece of paper.
