How did you pick a date ??

Recommended Posts

In addition to many of the above considerations (i.e., hurricane season, etc), we checked w/ our guests schedules! We had our list of "must have" guests and made sure they didn't have any conflicts w/ our preferred dates. I originally wanted end of October but one of my aunt's has a huge commitment then so that's how we arrived at early November :)

We didn't want summer because why travel to a hot place when it's already pretty warm here anyway? Plus, we didn't want hurricane/rainy season, so that eliminated a whole lot of months. Holidays are too expensive, and in the winter the ocean and general temperature can sometimes get a little chilly. The prices can be quite expensive in those winter months, especially around March because of all the different school breaks.

April is usually a great month to travel to Cuba because it's warmer than winter and it's still dry season. However that did not work for us as it was exam weeks for the few who are in college, including FI's brother. June is out of the question for me because I'm a teacher and no way am I missing the last month of school. So that left May. It's the beginning of the rainy season, but we figured we should be pretty safe if we keep it to early May.

Our decision was based off of a few things.

1. An easy date for FI to remember (1.23) 123!

2. My best friend got married on my birthday last year. And so I decided it would special to be married on her birthday. Its also special because another one of our close friends share the same birthday. And he passed away 6 months ago.

3. It will be freezing in January in CT and UT and we wanted to get away and get a vaca!!

Hope that helps!

We wanted a summer wedding, and found that it would also be convenient because the prices are cheaper then down south (although it turned out that it was the high season for our resort). We looked at May or early June because we wanted to avoid the hurricane season. We then narrowed it down by looking at the dates we didn't want (for example, FI's birthday) and date where family was not available. After that, we picked our weekend. Unfortunately it was not available at our resort, so we just took what was available (the weekend prior to the one we wanted). It's too bad though because otherwise it would have made it a long weekend for those traveling from Canada and been on the same weekend as FI's parents and sister's wedding anniversaries.

we originally wanted dec 31 2010 but they don't do weddings on new years eve. So then we decided if we can't have it on the day we wanted to move it to nov 12 2010 - it'll be perfect weather, cheaper costs and some people get the nov 11 2010 off for remembrance or veterans day and it allows us enough time for the 4 business days before the wedding that we have to be in mexico

we picked after april after easter so the costs would be a little cheaper. we figured everyone is broke in january after xmas, february i can't get time off work cuz of the olympics, march was family/spring breakers...so april. we are getting married on a friday because we have to be there for 4 full business days to have a legal ceremony. so we are flying out sunday-to sunday. that way we have a day to recover/relax after the wedding before we go home.

Our wedding will be in mid April in Mexico.

We chose that bc 1) April has the lowest precipitation compared to the rest of the months 2) by mid April "spring breakers" should be gone from Cancun 3) It's a good time to travel compared to May and into the summer months.. that's when the prices start going up.

Our wedding is on a Friday, FI and I will be there on Tuesday, guests will start arriving on Wed and Thurs. The reason we dont have it on a Sat. is 1) our time slot was chosen, so we bumped our wedding day 1 day before 2) now our guests wont have to go home with hangovers :)

we were actually really "traditional" when we picked a date. It's the 24th b/c that's my bday, his bday, and Christmas Eve is very big in my family, so it's a date that's just important to us. It wasn't until I got on this forum, that I see many brides put a lot of thought into the date based on their venue, holidays, etc.

I do agree that you should have it relatively close to the day you arrive though. So we will get to Cancun on the 22nd and go to our HM on the 26th.

ours is our 7th Anniversary. We got married on July 3, because my husband was in Tech School in Witchita Falls, TX. So I drove up on July 3 to visit him for the 4th of July weekend, and while we were eating at Chili's we decided to get married. So we left Chili's and went straight to the courthouse, because it was going to be closed the next day since it was Independence Day. It helps, because now he can NEVER forget our anniversary.
