Las Caletas Couples ~ POST HERE!!! (**All LC Brides...PLEASE READ 1st post, red text)

Hi Ladies, 

 

We just booked our DW with Las Calitas and I'm very excited but also realize I have so many questions! I can't believe I did this without actually visiting the site ... I have a couple worries (being that I made an impulse decision after seeing the pics but it usually takes me forever to make big decisions like this) - hoping past Las Calitas brides can answer. 

 

The bathrooms - Are these clean? I have read some reviews saying they were only lit by candle light, was this ever a problem? 

 

The boat - Did any guests get sea sick? 

 

Shoes - Did you wear shoes or flip flops or go barefoot?

I am tentatively planning my wedding at Las Caletas for Nov. 2014. Super excited! Just a question for any brides who had the grooms come out early for pictures. What type of boat did they bring them on? It took me a while to convince my FI to come early with his groomsmen so that we can get some pictures before the ceremony as there will be no light after that time of year. However, I am worried that if they bring them in on a not very nice panga, it will ruin the "specialness" of the day for him. I want him to feel special on the day too. He asked about renting a private charter for them to take them out, but I have a feeling vallarta adventures are not going to allow this. Any input on this would be helpful. Thank you.

I only used the bathrooms by the dance floor/reception area once. They were only lit by candle light but seemed clean to me. The candles were a bit intimidating because I hauled my dress up to pee, but I didn't catch on fire so it was all good! Some of our guests complained because the washrooms were a bit of a walk to get to, but in my opinion it was hardly a walk at all and it was nice to have the pathway lit with candles. It added to the ambience!

 

I don't think anyone from our group got sea sick on the boat ride to or from the island...

 

I wore strappy flat sandals (there's a picture of them on here somewhere...). The sand was so nice on the beach, very fine and nice on the feet. My husband wore slip on sandals but took them off when we did pictures.  We did pictures before the ceremony, which brings me to my next response...

I believe they were on a zodiac type speed boat. We don't have a picture, but my husband came over with our photographer and his wife (also our friends) and no one mentioned anything about the boat being crappy or a downer on the day. I would hope that a quick boat trip (20 minutes) wouldn't take away from the specialness of your day! Even if it was a tin boat that seated 4, it's an adventure and well worth the trip to Las Caletas to experience a one of a kind wedding!! I mean, us brides usually come over with a group of other people and that didn't take away from my day at all.

 

I think it's definitely a good idea to do formal pictures before the ceremony because by the time we got our group shots done with our friends and family after the ceremony (our group was small, too, only 26 people total) it was dark.

Hey Brides!

 

I'm bringing my sky lanterns with me from home and I know some of you others did as well.  Were you able to bring them onto the plane or did you have to check them in your luggage?

Hi my fellow fab Las Caletas brides!! I have gone thru so many of the wonderful reviews and I'm so excited about booking this coming week for Nov 2014. I'm just waiting to hear back from Dennise regarding a few questions I have before booking. I'm also going thru a travel agent for all my guests... Approx 40 adults & 10 kids. We're staying at Barcelo. Just a question to past brides... I'm very specific in the details I want for my day & I'm finding that I will have to supply most of the decor. Even though it's a "beach" wedding, I don't want a beach theme. : / I'm going with Victorian opulence... Gold charger plates, crystal chandeliers, candelabras on all the tables, personalized menus etc. Not sure how easy it's going to be to bring all this stuff on the plane & boat to LC... What kind of decor are other brides going with?

Congrats!! Las Caletas is absolutely amazing! We are bringing a TON of stuff too.  We purchased everything at home because I am also very involved in the details and most things were cheaper here and online.  Our theme is rustic beach.  We also worked in some Mexican traditions and décor to highlight the location.  We have runners, table lanterns, wish lanterns, centerpieces, papel picado flags, bridal party gifts, maracas, sand dollars, OOT bag stuff and sooooo much more.  I am getting nervous just listing all of it, so packing should be an adventure!

 

We are flying 1st class (only on the way there) because tickets were only $30 more and we get an extra checked bag each and 20 lbs. extra in each bag.  So we are actually SAVING MONEY!! by flying 1st class...crazy, isn't it?  We bought some plastic bins at Target so that after the wedding, we can leave them there and not have to fly back with them like we would if we used expensive luggage.  Make sure you have receipts for everything, so it doesn't look like you planning on selling anything. I made a bunch of fake ones with prices much lower than we paid for most stuff (you can use Microsoft word for this or buy a receipt book at an office store.)  I spoke with our WC, Blanca and she plans on coming to our resort a day or 2 before to grab everything, so the only thing I will have to carry the day of is my dress, makeup and whatever other personal belongings I need to get ready.  Hope this helps!

Hi!

 

Our wedding isn't until this November, but we did our site visit last November, so I think I can help a bit.  The bathrooms are very clean.  One thing to mention is that you are not allowed to flush tp.  There is a waste basket beside the toilet for disposal.  Sooo dimmer light is probably better for this reason, LOL.

 

I have extreme motion sickness.  I took Dramamine before I boarded the boat and was totally fine.  It was rough at times, so I would suggest this to guests who have  a history of sea sickness.  We are including Dramamine in our welcome bags with a note telling guests to take it before the boat ride. Sitting on the upper level and looking forward at the horizon always helps me, too. The crew has some Dramamine available onboard, but by the time you take it on the boat, it will be too late.  If you do provide it, make sure to get non-drowsy formula, so guests aren't sleepy at the wedding.  I've read that the boat ride back is much smoother and by that time, most people are too drunk or having too much fun to notice. 

 

I plan on going barefoot for the ceremony, but bringing sandals to change into for dinner and dancing.  I don't know if I would wear flip flops and risk kicking up sand while walking. I would recommend sandals with a strap or none at all.  The dance floor looks like it is covered in Astroturf, so if this would bother you while dancing, sandals would be the way to go.

I think I put them in my checked luggage.  You should call the air line though to make sure.

bathrooms - I never went to the bathrooms that the guests use so I can't answer that one.  

boat - My 5 year old niece/flower girl got sick on the way to LC.  Just 5 mins before arriving she threw up all over her dress, poor thing. But she felt fine afterwards and luckily she had a change of clothes and was still able to walk down the aisle.  The boat ride back to the resort was fine.   

shoes - I wore 1 1/2" flip flops but this is only because my dress was too long without them and I didn't want to pay the extra money to get it hemmed!  Otherwise I would of gone barefoot.

Hi! I was married at Las Caletas this past April and my husband and I go there usually about twice year for vacation and we always go to Las Calestas for Rhythm of the Nights. The bathrooms are always clean and the candles are small tea light candles which add a very nice ambiance, so no worries there. One of the unique things about Las Caletas is that they actually light up the whole place with candles each night, it's absolutely breath taking to see as you are leaving on the boat.

 

None of our guest got sea sick.

 

 

And lastly, I went barefoot for the wedding but had flip flops for the rest of the evening, the dance floor is a little ruff so you will probably want to wear some type of shoe.
