Biggest Destination Wedding Stress factor - what's yours?

My wedding is not going to be until 2016 so I don't know how it's possible that I'm feeling this much stress about it. I have wanted to get married in the Dominican Republic for years (my fiancé and I have been together for 9 years and wanted a destination wedding for 8 lol engaged since December). Now I started doing some research a few months ago and picked out my DREAM resort. Royalton Punta Cana is the place I would like to say I do, or at least sleep when I go there to say I do. The price for people to fly out of Saskatoon, SK ( where 90% of my guests would go from) is about $2600.00 per person for 7 days with flights for the same time period I want my wedding but in 2015. This is almost a thousand dollars more than I want to ask people to spend. So then I think ok well I could compromise and change resorts, or even the month when we are going. Nope everywhere I have the slightest interest in is about the same +/- $200 and that is the same for within two months of the dates I'm looking at. Now the real kicker is people have been asking since we got engaged so not only have I been saying PC Feb 2016, I sent out save the dates to stop people from asking and give them a heads up so they could save. I just am at a loss and do not know what to do at this point.

we are February 2016 as well... but Mayan Riviera. Its true that we are choosing the most expensive time of year to travel... but from Saskatoon (or Calgary where I am)... people want to escape the cold vs. go at a time where we are actually enjoying our few months of summer so prices are always more expensive. I would suggest talking to a great TA who can lead you in the right direction for some options... my TA has been amazing and has been great getting pricing and options this far out (Some TA's wont work on dates outside of a year)... I can get you her info if you are interested in talking to her. My prices are high... about $2000 with taxes in so we are also looking at 5 day packages to get the price lower for some people... it's an option that may help some guests pay a bit less. The good thing is, if you can give your guests a heads up on costs... or even let them start putting down deposits, we are giving our guests a TON of time to save and put down the remainder of their balance.

That would be great, I haven't had any luck finding someone yet. I am actually in the Lloydminster area so half way between Edmonton and Saskatoon!

Where are  your guests flying from? Edmonton?

They would be flying from Saskatoon for the most part as that is where most of them live. My FI and I could fly from Edmonton or Saskatoon.

Oh ok . I am actually getting prices to fly from Edmonton but apparently the resort I chose the airline (air transat) don't have the package for flight and land. I have to purchase land only and flights seperatly which is bringing up cost. The TA told me that it's around $1900 right now. I put my deposit down for land only but I am thinking I may wait longer to book flights just cause I am hoping it would be cheaper.

 

 

Oh I should add to this topic of the biggest stressor. It's def. getting people to book. My deposit date is July 4th and still people are saying they have to book. The deposit is $50. My question is if they know they are booking and going then why are they waiting to put the deposit down. It don't make sense to me. It's so frustrating.

Melia Caribe in Punta Cana? I thought Air Transat Holidays had packages there!? I was sure I have seen it in their books!!

Yes that's the resort in Punta Cana. Hmmmm I should bring it up to the TA again. I would be very happy if it was. Do you have the book?

I just did a quick search online using tripcentral (their pricing is always expensive so I never use them, but their vacation planning grid is super user friendly and great to use as a guide... ) They have packages with air transat holidays in April 2015... So check with your TA! They are even direct flights out of Edmonton.

I just had a look back through my emails from my TA and there were flights from Edmonton from Air Transat but none flying out on the 13th. They were like earlier in the month. She said she was going to check to see if they would add on more flights cause they sometimes do but nothing yet

Ahhh yes, I only see the 10th and the 17th! Too bad!
