Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies! I've just finished reading all 350 pages of this thread and am so thrilled to have found all this information! Ha, when I first started reading I had no idea what OOT bags were . . . I have my heart set on booking this resort for my June 2013 wedding. I'm meeting with the travel agent next week to see what prices are like. I'm planning on contacting Chandlyn shortly to see what kind of openings there are for next June. I feel a bit silly doing it so far in advance, but from what I've read, it doesn't seem that unusual to get things going this early.

Congrats! And welcome, there are so many helpful people and tips on this site. Its not silly getting the ball rolling now. I started planning December 2011 and was planning on getting married March 2013, but settled for January 2013, because surprisingly, was much cheaper.

Good luck planning!

Attention all GBP Jamaica brides-to-be, especially those for 2013, make sure you contact the resort regarding the changes to their wedding packages and photographer policies.

I was planning my wedding for Feb. 2013 at GBP Jamaica, and just as we received official pricing (which was more then what we planned, but were gonna go with it anyway) and we were about to book our trip and get invitations printed, I received some information from the resort regarding changes to their wedding packages and new photogrtapher policies.

They now have black-out-dates for the Free Package from mid Jan. to mid Mar. when you cannot use this package and they now have set times that ceremony are done when you can use this package.

For any outside photographers used at the resort for wedding pictures, you have to pay an $800 fee.

After much debate and crunching of numbers, because of these changes and the cost being more then anticipated, I am sad to say I am no longer a GBP Jamaica bride and will not be having my destination wedding :(

On the bright side, I get to marry my FI this November (sooner then planned) and we all of our friends and family :)

I just want to say that everyone on this site/thread has been so wonderful and all information provided has been extremely helpful and I am not trying to discredit anything on here.  Just be cautious as things change the resorts so be sure to stay in contact with your WC and keep all correspondce from them, and if you are unsure of anything make sure you ask questions!

Take care all,

Kim

My photographer I am bringing is a friend and she is staying at the resort for at least 3 nights and she said that there is no reason we should have to pay the $800 fee. She said she is that confident that we won't have to - that if they do make us, she will pay it! She has done other destination weddings and has never paid a fee. It is absolutely ridiculous! The hotel photographers at GBP I heard are so bad! They make so much money off of everyone else staying there, if you book a DJ/bartender for the beach, a private dinner, etc, etc! They don't need the $800! Anyway, lcamer - I am getting married at the GBP on June 22, 2013 and couldn't be more excited! I booked the date in February I think because I am a big planner! ;-) Maybe your wedding day will be around the same time mine is!

Wow, sounds like they have made a few major changes, not sure if they are for the better.  One of the reasons we chose this resort was because it didn't have vendor fees for photographers and they were super accomodating with everything.  Im really glad we got married when we did, as we were going to wait another year.  I'm sad to see you wont be having your destination wedding, but you do deserve an amazing honeymoon because of it!!  Good luck with all your wedding planning for your November wedding!!

Funny enough, FutureKeese, I have toyed with the idea of having my wedding on June 20th, which is also my birthday. If I have both our anniversary and my birthday on the same date, maybe Mike will stand a chance of remembering the date!! lol. Question: we were discussing our wedding last night and what we both want. He is ultra-casual and doesn't want a ton of wedding hoopla . . . while I love all the traditional wedding stuff! We worked out pretty much everything but are stuck when it comes to a reception or what to do after dinner. He would love to just head to the beach and hang out and have a few drinks - that idea is fine for me in theory, but I'm pretty sure the beach isn't lit at night and bonfires aren't allowed. I suggested heading to the bar nearest the beach, but our group includes quite a few kids (including my own stepchildren) and he had to remind me that kids probably aren't allowed in the bar!! lol. Any suggestions??

The only bars children aren't allowed in is the Sports bar and Kareokee Bar in the publo principe (the shopping centre).  All the other bars, such as the lobby bar and pool bars and just tables and chairs outside so anyone, even kids, can go there.  After our dinner we all went to the lobby bar for some drinks and then over to the sports bar and disco after that.  The beach isn't lit at all at night time.
