Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Hey all...talk about a frustrating day! So I was talking to an acquaintance of mine today about having a destination wedding and how excited I was.  She seemed really surprised, then asked if anyone was actually going to show up! I was explaining to her that we had 18 booked so far....then she had the nerve to say: "i think destination weddings are just a way of getting your guests to pay for your wedding".  I was shocked!!! I definitely am not asking my guests to pay for my wedding by any means!!!! I'm busy working away on OOT bags and planning an excursion for my guests to thank them for travelling all this way to our wedding.  I was shocked that someone could think that, let alone say that!!! Am I the only one who has ever heard this? I was appalled!!  I think I'm still in shock!

Then following that she actually said something about the ceremony that made me think...  For those who have already done this, did you have a chance to talk to either the minister or the wedding coordinators about what you actually want said at your ceremony?  Did you have to write your own vows? Did you prepare readings, or did they have a standard ceremony prepared?  I was planning to bring something for them to read for the sand ceremony, but hadn't thought about it beyond that! Also, was there a microphone so that your guests could hear what you were saying, or is it close enough that you don't have to worry about that?  Any ceremony tips would be much appreciated! In the rush of things to do, it sounds like I managed to forget about what's most important...the ceremony itself!

Didn't mean to just post your quote!  I accidentally deleted my response, oops!

Anyways...

I'm sorry you are having a frustrating day!  I know how you feel.  We had some people at first who didn't understand our decision to have a destination wedding and thought we were being selfish to ask everyone to travel to Jamaica to celebrate our wedding.  At first this upset me but then I thought that its our special day and we are going to have the wedding we want to have if that means doing it in Jamaica!  I think a lot of the time people don't understand a destination wedding and don't realize that you are not paying for their wedding.  I just tell them it will be free whether they show up or not!  Just remember its your wedding and you should do what you want! Not what everyone else wants you to do.

In regards to the ceremony, im pretty sure past brides have written their own ceremony.  Otherwise a standard ceremony script is used.

Hi BusyBee

I feel your frustration girl!!! But like JayKay said: It's your day!!!

Trust me on this: When I told people (a year ago) we going to Jamaica for the wedding, everyone said that no one will go!!! NOW I have exactly 67 PEOPLE already paid the ticket, and I'm still waiting for 10 more (they decide to go because everyone going now!!!!) My weeding is in june and people still calling me to see if I can find a ticket for them!!!!.

Jaykay I totally understand your frustration some of my family has complained about the price, destination. I had one Aunt ask me who from my mom's side of the family who is going from your Dad's side which none of them are she then implied oh so we all have to go but none of them do like I was making them. Sometimes I swear people are just trying to hurt your feelings maybe it's jealousy because it's such an amazing thing to get married somewhere so beautiful. So far none of my mom's side had booked yet they are apparently waiting for a cheaper deal so who knows if they will even go but I have 17 booked  and I am so glad my FI family rocks almost all of them are going and I only have my mom going and some friends for me. Oh and my dad is booked but he is trying to back out which is brutal he is not a beach person at all he hasn't worn shorts in over 25 years and he doesn't swim. I am just hoping it all works out.

I agree with what the other girls said busybee...  It's your day, do what you want!  Plus, we all know that our guests aren't paying for our wedding.  Even though it's an 'all inclusvie' resort, t's still going to cost us a lot of money to have the ceremony and reception we want!  Hopefully today is a less frustrating day  for you, we've all dealt with it but to have the wedding of our dreams I guess we have to deal with it.  They're just jealous after all msnwink.gif

About the ceremony... Chandlyn had told me before we could write our own scripts and the minister would go along with whatever we wanted.
