Dreams Cabo - HELP!

Thank you Cessy, I really appreciate you chiming in!! It helps to know that people of all ages would enjoy it -- I was worried that maybe it was a bit on the younger-want-to-party-til-all-hours kinda crowd, which is fine, but to an extent, you know? Anyway, appreciate it! :)

Jenn,

Selecting the right hotel is the by far the hardest thing about getting married. I live in Central California and I can understand your concerns about the quality food at Dreams. I had the same concerns which is why I'm not a big fan of AI Hotels. However, reading the previous brides wedding reviews changed my mind and I will be getting married there in a couple of weeks.

Just to ease your mind, We have a friend that is a multi-millionaire that actually went to a wedding there in July. I had him report back with a full review and he had nothing but good things to say. He said that he liked the food and that they had excellent service. He's a very picky person so I was happy to hear that he really enjoyed his stay.

As for the guest pass, about half of my guests are staying at different hotels and I was able to work a deal with my WC to waive the fee for the day of the wedding and pay the standard price as I would be doing for hotel guests. I'm sure that you can work something out with your WC.

Also, I'm not sure if you have a photographer but you should check out Jim Kennedy Photography. They are located in So. Cal and I used them for my BD shoot. There work is amazing.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jess

I'm getting married at Dreams in December and like you I've had various concerns and even second guessed the decision a time or two. But I've read lots of threads on this site and overall I think brides have more good things to say than bad.

I'm in the process of selecting my menu and I really can't decide. In fact, I'm looking over the options and decided to log in to see what others chose. I came across your post right away and had to laugh a little. I don't know if I would consider myself a foodie, nevertheless I love to cook and have pretty high standards for quality and taste. Do I go with salmon or mahi mahi? These options could be risky. Sometimes fish sits around too long and has that fishy smell and taste. Yuck. Do I go with beef? It's hard to mess up beef unless it's overcooked. Or do I go back to the gold menu for the surf and turf? Ahh! It's so hard! I just want the meal to be fresh and yummy. There are no guarantees. If it totally sucks, I would be pretty disappointed.

Yes, it's such a hard decision! We are such a foodie generation, and if you are lucky enough to live in a place where you eat a lot of fresh, organic, and deliciously prepared food, and this is what you get used to, it's hard to ask all your friends to join you at $350/night for yuck food! That's my main fear -- I can deal with "good" food, but I can't deal with "average" food or below. As for your menu, I'd go surf & turf! :)

hey, i'm just putting my 2 cents in as i stayed there a few years ago. i just went there for a holiday with 4 girls, i was 27, the others were 30, 45, 75. we had a nice relaxing time. the food was amazing. the thing i found was that there was very minimal partying! i wanted to party up a night or two, but there wasn't any action. maybe it has changed since my stay. but we loved the resort, it was one of my favorite resorts, and i've been to many! the only down fall, is you can't swim in the ocean in front of the resort, you have to walk about 10 mins down the beach to a bay. and the sand isn't the sandy-est. it's a little more like pebbles, but still amazing!!!

i think you'll love it! i didn't see any other weddings when i was there either.

have a fabulous time, and don't worry about it, everyone will looooove it!

Just want to add that I thought the food was delicious - I'm no foodie, but none of my guests were complaining about it. We ate at the sushi restaurant twice, and the Italian restaurant was one of the best meals I've ever had! Our wedding menu was all appetizers, and our guests said it was really good (although I didn't eat any of it so I can't really comment).

As for the party atmosphere - it all depends on what type of people are staying there the week that you are, which is impossible to predict. You may have people that like to be rowdy around the pool, but then you can move to the Oceana pool or even the beach where you won't hear them. And at night, there is no outdoor partying past 10:30pm, and they are STRICT on this, so it will be quiet around the resort by that time.

Hope that helps.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am back from the wedding!

Tha being said, I completely agree with what Heather said above. The resort was all ours it felt like for the first 6 days, then a different group came in later, after all my guests had left and they had a lot more smokers which was not great, but I was glad my guests were gone.

But there is no way you could predict that in advance.

On to the food:

** these are all soley my and my husbands opinions, so take what you want from it and skip what you dont want******

I am pretty much a foodie. Although I love comfort foods too! There were amazing delish dishes that blew us away at every restaurant. Oceanna and Portifino's were amazing, seaside grill is a steakhouse at night and is extremely impressive for Meixcan meats.

We tried the entire menu at Himatsu (asian) and it was ok. The salmon sushi was def previously frozen, so that did not do it for us since we are used to fresh. The tempura was good.

The luches for foodies are by far the best at oceanna, the poolside menu is simple but delish! They call something fish fingers but it is really fresh mahi mahi fish and chips. Yumm I miss it already. Lesson, dont get put off by the names of the dishes since they are all fresh.

I have to say that dreams had the best food I have ever had in Mexico in all my trips. And I cant wait to go back not just for the resort and ocean but acutally miss the food.

PS, the avacado cutney on top of our crab cake app at the wedding was amazing.

Fav dishes at each rest:

Hitmatsu:

fave-tempura anything

skip-salmon sushi

Oceanna-this is hard

fave-mahi mahi with mush, shrimp tortilla soup, suft and turf part 2

skip- nothing all good

Portifino-

fave- tuna steak

skip- fruitta de marr

Seaside grille-dinner

fave- 10 oz ribeye and grilled provalone

skip- coconut shrimp

seaside grill lunch

fave- fish fingers

skip-nothing all good

El Patio-love the omlette station

Room Service:

fave- tortilla soup, all the goodies are in one bowl and then the delish broth in a seperate cauldren, so when it arrives you can mix them together yourself and nothing is soggy.

skip- grilled cheese. bizzare and microwaved and not grilled what so ever.

Jenn welcome to the forum! Dreams is absolutely amazing! I was a bit hesitant as well after reading the Trip Advisor reviews, but honestly after I went there I loved it so so much.
