Dreams Cabo - HELP!

Hey everyone,

So I thought we had everything set for a wedding at Dreams on June 4th, 2010, however, after reading some reviews of the resort, my fiancé is really hesitant about having our wedding there. I know there are a lot of Dreams brides on this forum, both those who are already married, and those who are going to be, and I could really use some honest insight. Keep in mind we'd have between 50-75 people at the wedding, a few kids, and most people would be in the 29-50 age range (with most in their 30s).

The main concern is the quality of the food. We know the type of quality of the food our friends like to eat, and while you don't go to a resort strictly for the food, this would be quite a sticking point if it's not good. Most of our friends are from California, and expect high-quality, fresh food, especially when traveling. So if you have a strong opinion about this, and tend to really care about food yourself, I'd appreciate honesty. PM me if you don't want to reply to this message publicly.

The next concern is random stuff we've read like flies being everywhere when you're eating, waiters and room service folks demanding tips in order to give you your food/drink/whathaveyou, and finally, that drunken people are everyone, the noise around the resort is terrible, and guests are rude.

Finally, the whole guest pass fee for non-resort guests . . . I didn't originally think this would be a problem at all, but it seems to be a bigger issue by the day. Many people want to say at other resorts, and some have homes or timeshares. The fee for these passes could quickly get out of hand! Any advice or experience with this?

I really do appreciate any public or private feedback you can provide us, since this is such an important day. I know we all have different views of what's acceptable and what's not, but generally I'm just trying to gauge the real picture.

Tammy (my TA) and I are going to chat about this next week when I have real time to sit down and talk it through, but in the meantime, would LOVE your feedback.

Thanks much,

Jenn

Hi Jen, first welcome to the forum. We have SOOO many brides on this forum that got married at Dreams and had nothing but nice things to say about it, Because of these reviews my husband and I are planning a vacation at Dreams in late may/ early June. IMO, I think you will love it there. As I' am sure you know, Tammy got married there as well and highly recommends the resort.

If you have some free time, I would suggestion doing a search on Dreams on this forum, and I' am sure you'll find many brides that loved it. :-)

There was a large discussion in the cabo forum on the trip advisor reviews, if you do the search that TammyB suggested you should be able to find it.

In the end, we all agreed that you cant possibly make everyone happy, most people who take the time to put up a review have something to complain about, and finally the food in mexico will never be the food at home, they do the best they can.

Dreams has blown the socks off almost all the brides who have gotten married there. So I cant wait to get there on tuesday.

I strongly suggest that you look inside yourself because in a DW someone in your guests will always have something to say or complain about and you just have to be confident in your decision and stay strong with it. we are here if you need us :)

jenn, like i said, i am a total foodie...i am actually ordering fois gras (don't flame me...i only do this once a year) form artisan fois gras to cook at home and have my own food blog (check it out! Tammy's Culinary Adventures)

i can pretty much cook anything i want and used to live walking distance from the farmers market at the ferry building in san francisco so i am really into fresh, artisan products AND have friends that are famous chefs (even won a james beard award)...some members here can also attest to the fact that i am obsessed with food network, top chef, hell's kitchen, etc.

that being said, dreams is def. not the best food i have ever eaten but i always look forward to it when i go every year. they do have a daily buffet that is cafeteria style...its a buffet for crying out loud...but the breakfast buffest is AWESOME...seriously. i love betty the omelet lady and would like to adopt her.

if people have an aversion to buffets, there are sit down restaurants like oceana, seaside grill, portofino, himitsu.

here are some other foodies that got married at dreams..maybe you can hit them up with some questions.

-kate- (used to be lala)...she is a foodie and i see her fb posts about top chef when i fb stalk her.

leia78: lives in bay area and is always going out to eat. stalks dine about town like i do.

JPKW: lives in socal so i am sure she's used to the same type of food your guests are used to.

check out all the dreams cabo brides...most of them are pretty honest about the food and service.

dreams cabo is the most expensive AI in cabo and is not even located in town...they also book faster than most resorts in cabo. if the food was as bad as they say, how would they be able to charge the price they do and are almost filled to capacity most of the time.

also, alot of brides that got married at dreams end up going back for their anniversary...would they do this if the food was that awful.

We have 4 guests staying at thier homes/timeshares. I was able to work with dreams and they are only charging me a small fee for the welcome dinner for an 'evening only" pass, then the wedding is the day pass of $89 but there is no additional fee for the wedding stuff on top of that. It is not ideal but it is not that bad of a fee considering I am paying $70 per person over 20 from the package.

Oh! I didn't realize that you didn't have to pay the regular wedding fee/guest on top of the guest pass fee. Just paying the guest pass fee, and not the other on top, is really no big deal! Erika, is that something that you had to work out with them, or is that just standard protocol?

Thanks!!

j.
